Mask Leaving Marks

Post by Sable » Sun Aug 15, 2010 3:00 pm

I have used my CPAP machine and mask for over 4 years but lately the mask is leaving big red marks on my face and they don't go away. Any idea how to correct this.

Check this out: http://www.remzzzs.com/

It is suppose to help with leaks but it might help with red marks.

Hi, Sable. It depends upon where the marks are, but here is how I avoid them. For the marks from the straps on my cheeks, I take a facial buff sponge (that's what the package calls them) and wrap it carefully in a facial tissue (Kleenex). You can secure it with a small piece of paper medical tape, but it really isn't necessary. I use one of these for each cheek and just slip it under the strap after I put on the mask.

These are very cheap, work with any mask, and they absorb moisture very well, making them doubly comfortable. When the tissue gets a little worn, I replace it. After a while, the pad also is a little less "spongy" and I toss it and get a new one.

For the forehead pad, I take two of the sponge pads together and wrap them in a tissue.

The buff pads are like this, only they are round, smaller, and a great deal cheaper. I buy them in the make-up section at Target, getting about a dozen for $2 or $3.

For the bridge of my nose, I use a piece of Nexcare Absolute Waterproof Tape on top of a piece of a piece of Johnson and Johnson tape, which I can't name at the moment, but it doesn't stick as tight as the Waterproof tape and is therefore easier to remove. I press those two tapes together, cut an oval out of the double-layer, and place it over the bridge of my nose.
