NEW MEMBER NEEDS INFO!!!

Post by SleepytimeT » Wed Aug 11, 2010 12:19 pm

Hi everyone,
I am BRAND NEW here. This is the second day I have woken up from using CPAP. How do I find out what my AHI number is that I am reading about? Also, the Respitory Therapists set up my machine for me and told me I didn't need to know any of the information because they have it all under control so how do I find out what software my machine is running and how would I access that information? Is the machine I have a good one?

Thanks for any help!!!!

Hi and welcome,

I really cant help you with setting up your machine but sence it is an auto I would think that there is software that you can get to help but I am sure someone more familluar with that machine can help.

IMO that person is wrong, you do need to know the info to be proactive in your therapy. I just saw my sleep doctor 2 weeks ago and she said that i did not need to come back for a year. A lot can happen in a year and without that info how would i know that things are turnning sour?

Any ways giad to see you here there are a lot of great people here to help.

You'll need to buy a copy of Encore Viewer 2.0 for the Remstar Pro/Auto machine and load it up on your computer. Then download the data from the SD card in your RemStar to your computer. Encore Viewerer will create the graphs and tables.

As far as interpretation...I'm at where you are at....I don't have the software in hand yet. But more seasoned users here can help with that

Hi,
Turn the machine on. Turn the knob until it darkens "therapy". Click the knob and turn it left or right until it darkens AHI. Click on it. That will give you your current number of episodes but remember you're machine only will look back 7 days. When you are finished, turn left or right till it darkens "back". Click on it. Then you should be able to turn the knob so the the top left corner is darkened. I forget what it says. Click and you should be back where you started and ready for another night.
PM me if you need more help.
Shar:)
Yes, I agree you need the software. Don't listen to the Resp. Therapist.

The software (Encore Viewer 2.0) is available from cpap.com at $99. They have a bundle which includes the software and a card reader. I think it costs $30 more. Any memory card reader will do so you don't need to buy that if you have one or one is on your computer or printer.

For the poster whose profiles says they have the System One PLUS machine, the software is a waste of money with that machine since it only gives you compliance data (how often and how long you used it).

You need the System One Pro or the System One Auto for the software to be useful.

SleepytimeT - with the System One auto (that's what your profile says you have) you have an excellent machine. You can only get 7 and 30 day averages on the LCD screeen without the software. It would be good to get that. The Plus, the Pro and the Auto in the System One are all very good machines but the Pro and the Auto are the only 2 of the 3 that are fully data capable.

If you want the Cliinician's Manual, which shows you how to change any setting and display what you want in the LCD screen, PM me your email address and I can send it to you as an email attachment.

Dear sleepytimeT,

The fact that you are here means you really didnt believe what the therapist told you..

You get that software, and you take charge of all of this, you will be amazed at what you will learn, and how much easier it will be to make YOUR
life better.. Your R.T. lied to you, you DO need that information... and, personally, Im not fond of people lying to me who are supposed to be helping
me with my health....

The more I learn, the more I see that the information that patients get from sleep medicine health care providers is a throw back to the dark ages..

Hope you get everything sorted out so you can understand what is going on. Its wonderful to be your own health care advocate..

Thank you everyone for your input! I want to be in charge of my own health and not have to strictly rely on a doctor or therapist! I'm sure all of this will be "old hat" in no time!

If you want to see the type of data you can view with Encore Viewer, I have a post about it on my blog here: http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/2010/0 ... -tutorial/

This is very useful information to make sure you are getting the best therapy all the time.

Good luck!

SleepytimeT, welcome to the forum, and congratulations on taking charge of your health. I don't have your machine, so I'll refrain from commenting on how to deal with it, but I want to assure you that, based on what your RT said, that after a few more hours reading on this forum YOU will know more than the RT does about what's working for you. Good luck, and ask us anything because we're here to help.
