New User Question re: Nasal Pillows

Post by BobHale » Tue Aug 10, 2010 9:33 am

I have been using my APAP with a nasal mask for about a month now. My main problem is that I need to sleep on my side, I keep shifting the mask so that it leaks and blows in my eye. This wakes me up rather quickly. Would a nasal pillow be more resistant to leaking when I move while sleeping on my side?

LOVE my Swift FX mask. Before that it was a Swift LT.
I'm a confirmed side-sleeper and doubt I could use anything else as comfortably.
With the hose routed above my head & over the headboard, I don't have any troubles with switching from left to right.

Thank You.
I called my supplier and the Swift LT is one of the options I was considering.

I had nothing but problems with my Nasel pillows when trying to side sleep.

I am a longtime side sleeper and just changed from a nasal mask to the FX. I could not be more pleased. Switching from side to side is easy and no leaks. The comfort is excellent.

I love my air pillows too and route the hose up over my head, hooked on the wall. The FX even stays put sometimes when I sleep on my stomach and squash my face into the bed pillow - but sometimes it doesn't.

Thank You all for your comments. I know that what works for one person may or may not work for another. For someone new to this all you can do is consider experienced users choices and results.

I'm also a very happy Swift FX user.

I sleep on my left side mostly, but switch sides every so often without much issue.

Hi There--I use the Swift LT for her and the FX--I can only sleep on my side. Either of these two nasal pillow masks are great for side sleepers and I don't have leak problems at all --you might want to give either one a try,
Hope this helps,
Carrie

Side sleeper here. I found nasal pillow type masks hold their seal better for my sleeping style. I actually just made the switch from Swift LT to Swift FX. I blogged a little about it... http://www.sleepandcpap.blogspot.com I'm gonna try to blog a couple more times about it as time goes on. Keep checking back. Good luck on your nasal pillow endeavor!

I'm pretty much a side sleeper, but I don't roll over gently. I have pillow induced leaks throughout the night with the Swift LT or FX. (The LT causes my upper gum to be sore.) One thing that seems to help with the FX is to wrap 2" self adhering plastic bandage tape (the stuff that only sticks to itself) around my forehead and the back strap of the mask.

I am a confirmed side sleeper and I love the LT and FX both, but FX is winning as my favorite right now. They can slip a bit as you move your head on the pillow, but there are tweaks that keep them solidly in place. If you get them, either look up the lab rat fixes (do a search here) or ask if you have any difficulties.
