how to adjust PR1 APAP setting

Post by kelingdun » Sat Aug 07, 2010 8:18 am

spend the last 3 days on PR1 APAP, slept much better than I used to on a differnt machine.
From my last post, several member suggest to set the initial pressure to higher ( default is 4).
My last 3 days stat is as follows:

AHI: 2.3
large leak: 6%
90% pressure: 8.7

I think these number are pretty good. Qustion is, how do I change the initial setting to start at
a higher pressure ( 8 for example) ?

question 2: I don't have the encoreviewer yet but intend to get it somehow. But my data menu showed:

SD card: unlocked
free space: 100%

Is this right? either my last three days of data is very small, or nothing is recorded?

Your numbers are good except for the large leak which makes other numbers suspect.

You can buy Encore Viewer 2.0 for your machine, at cpap.com for $99. They have a bundle with a card reader but any reader will do.

You Secure Digital card is huge for the amount of data that goes on it every night. It will be awhile before you see the 100% free space start to go down.

If you want the Clinician's Guide, to change pressures, PM me your email address and I can send it to you as an attachment.

You do need to work on getting that large leak down to 0% most nights though.

You should not be having ANY large leaks, let alone 6% after just a few nights. I can't even get my machine to show a large leak if I deliberately try to cause one. The leaks have to be the size of a jet plane wash to register as "large leaks".

You need to work on getting the leaks under control before you can rely on the rest of the data.

Thanks Hawthrone and Janknitz:

how do I work on my leak? change a mask? my current mask feel pretty tight when I went to asleep I thought. Kaiser now has a sleep apnea drop in clinic once a week.
I will take advantage of that too, but just thought if there are something easy I could do first.

You don't have your equipment posted, so we can't see what mask you are using. Chances are that if your mask is feeling "pretty tight", the air cushion is not fully inflated and that's what's causing the leaks. But I am very surprised you are experiencing any large leaks without noticing it. Truthfully, leaks large enough to register as large leaks should be very loud and noticeable. Do you sleep alone? Has your bed partner noticed anything? Check your hoses and connections, too. Maybe you have a hole in a hose???

Let us know exactly what mask you are using. A lot of manufacturers have fitting guides on their websites with pictures and sometimes video to help you make sure you have the mask adjusted properly.

And yes, I would take advantage of the Kaiser drop in clinic to see if they can help you adjust the mask and take a look at your data card and get more info for you until your software comes. Ask them to print out the daily details for you. I just posted a tutorial on my blog at http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/2010/0 ... -tutorial/ to help you interpret the printouts (although the printouts from clinician's software will be slightly different)

If you have a nasal mask or nose pillows you may be sleeping with your mouth open. If you have ramp on, which is usally 4.0 setting from factory, turn ramp off.

Janknitz: I am using the respronic comfort classic mask. I had been using this mask almost from the start of time. Just got the PR1 3 days ago and this machine record the leak.

snoresliketrain: Yeah, I will go turn the ramp off. Still learning this machine.
