Slept awful last night!

Post by joeattardi » Fri Aug 06, 2010 9:17 am

My second night with the new machine wasn't quite as good. First, I had a real hard time getting my mask to fit without leaks - the S9 screen kept showing the red sad face. I drifted in and out of sleep, but didn't sleep well at all. Overslept and was late for work I haven't looked at my data yet but on the info screen it said my AHI was, I think, 4.2 or something close to that.

I'll post my data later when I go home...

Did you follow the mask fitting DVD? I usually watch the DVD 2 or 3 times to make sure i fitted the mask correctly.

There is a possibility you have the wrong size mask for your face, have you tried the resmed mask fitting templates? they can be found as .pdf files at the link below, just print them out and hold up to your face to get an idea for sizing.

I had a love hate affair with my quattro and now just keep it for when i get nasal congestion but then i tend to prefer the mirage hybrid over the quattro. Some people can get the Quattro to fit so that it floats on their face, I've never been able to do that.

If you mouth breath you can always look into a nasal or nasal pillow mask and use of a chin strap or mouth taping.

I swear by my papcap chin strap for supporting my jaw and preventing it from dropping and causing mouth leaks.

There's a mask fitting DVD? Ha! I never got one. Man, I am liking my DME less and less. I wonder if I'd be able to get reimbursed with my insurance buying from CPAP.com for my supplies instead of my local DME.

Hi joe,
Im sorry you had such a crummy night. That happened to me too, I managed to get thru night number one, (many moons ago)
and night number two was a disaster.. but things smoothed out a bit in the weeks to come..

Youll get that mask to fit, once it took me three days to fit my headgear back to where it should have been, after I took it apart!

hang in there buddy!

There are going to be some good nights and bad nights. Gradually, the good nights will start to outnumber the bad, but there will still be the occasional bad night.

Do you have any alternate masks? When I can't get my main mask to work, it's time to switch over to an alternate for a night or so--often that gives me a good night when it was otherwise going to be a bad one.

And I've gotten in trouble for saying this because there are Quattro lovers out there, but there are also a lot of people who just have constant trouble from leaks with the Quattro. It seems to be the mask many people love to hate.

Hang in there!

Words of encouragement--
You can do it.
We've been there, too--
It WILL get better.

I had a tough time the first few weeks. For the next several months after my numbers were all over the place. I finally got my chin strap and mask to fit and seat properly. I had to stay on top of my allergies. The numbers stabilized and now are consistently pretty good. It takes a lot of trial and error. You will get there though if you are persistent.
