In the family?
Re: In the family?
I am almost positive my father had OSA but he is now deceased so I will never know for sure. My sister & I have been diagnosed. My other sister snores like a freight train but is convinced she doesn't need tested. My mother has been diagnosed but refuses to use a cpap.

I'm sure my father had OSA. I remember his snoring and my mother, for that matter, as a kid. We use to make fun of how loud they both were. I'm sure one of my brother's and one of my sister's has OSA, but won't get tested.

Both me and my father have severe sleep apnea.

My aunt on my mom's side had it until she had gastric bypass and lost 250lbs.
I'm pretty convinced my dad has it. He's always been a snorer, you can hear him loud and clear when he stops breathing and starts gasping and he's slept through quite a bit over the years.

My mom has OSA for sure, but has never gotten treatment for it. I think that may be why I waited so long to get my own treatment--- it just seemed like an acceptable thing. I just wrote her a letter, urging her to get treatment. Better late than never!

Re: In the family?
I saw my brother this weekend and told him I have just been diagnosed with sleep apnea and will be sleeping with a machine soon.
He goes on to tell me that at his colonoscopy, one of the nurses told him she "thought" he might have sleep apnea, the other nurse said "oh, you do." He didn't get tested, but maybe now he will, since I told him one of the long-term effects of sleep apnea can be atrial fibrillation. My mother was suddenly diagnosed with AT last fall, developed other complications and died suddenly. She may/may not have had sleep apnea, but she certainly had sleep deprivation.
I'm beginning to suspect my younger daughter may need to be tested, as well.
