sleepy mama in canada

Post by sleepymama » Mon Aug 02, 2010 7:00 pm

Just joining. Was looking for an active support group for sleep apnea. was recently diagnosed. this upcoming friday i will find out where to go from here as well as detailed results from my sleep study. was trying for the oral appliance but insurance doesn't cover it so now i'm thinking i may need to go the cpap route. i'm a married mama of two girls and believe i have had sleep apnea for a year or more. it's hard to tell. i also have severe bruxism (grinding) at night.
great to be here and looking fwd to talking with others who understand.

Welcome sleep mama, I'm from Canada too! (Ontario)
I too was recently diagnosed and just started CPAP last week. You'll find this place very helpful. Everyone seems more than happy to answer questions and help us along the sleep apnea/xpap journey.
Good luck to you, and keep us updated!

Welcome from another Ontarian.

Stick with it...adjusting to the cpap gear can take several months. It's been 3 months for me and still not fully there yet. It definitely has improved with my energy level and daytime sleepiness. Good luck.

Hello sleepymama, Sandra and chockl8guy, welcome to you all. I'm not Ontarian but I'm not too far, 5hrs away; LOL

The key is to ask questions, to listen and to be persevering and have good attitude. I'm not too old here but have been long enough to learn a lot who helped me to make work my treatment.

Whish you all fast success.

Rosie

I'm just outside of Kingston.
Going pretty good. Felt a difference first night, after second night woke up great! Since then a little less great, but functioning much better than pre-CPAP. I think that I'm a bit tired in the day sometimes, but don't have those in-the-fog periods at days' end, and not fatigued driving later in the day either. Both important to me and am thankful for those improvements. I find myself sleeping less hours. Holy, waking up at like 6am rearing to go.
I'm still experimenting with trial masks. Still getting used to them, sometimes wake up to fix leaks, that sort of thing. I imagine I'll eventually (soon I hope) settle on just the right mask for me, and be used to the slight changes in sleep routines.
