Hi Allen, I had a somnoplasty several years ago for snoring (apnea was not even discussed at that point). The proccedure was extremely painful, even with novicane (sp?). It actually cooks the interior of the soft palate. Three applications of the probe are necessary, one for 45 seconds, one 90 seconds, and a last one for 45 seconds. I'm not a whimp, but this hurt like hell.
Recovery was bad because of not only pain, but severe swelling. And about the results? Not good. Snoring was still as bad as ever, just at a higher octave.
When my Dr. sold this proccedure, he said it can take two applications, all covered under one payment $1500. The first app. didn't work, so I wanted him to treat me again, but he was unwilling to do so, suggesting that he surgically remove my uvula, I walked out of his office at that point.
Somnoplasty has very limited and temporary success, the body will reverse the scar tissue it creates. I see you posted this on the 18th, I hope you didn't go ahead and get it done. best regards Gary
