Good sleep blamed for injury...

Post by seamaiden » Tue Nov 08, 2005 6:24 pm

For over a month my left little finger, half the ring finger and bottom edge of my hand have been completely numb from a compressed nerve. It's usually caused by injury to the elbow, but I haven't banged the elbow nor is it engaged in repetitive motion. The doc believes it happened during long sleep on my left side. With apap, aura, latex bed and pillows, and pounds of quilts (it's cold here), I am not only sleeping soundly but sleeping without moving. Good grief. I would have never thought that I would finally get sleep under control and suffer nerve damage because of it.

In addition to the head gear, now I have to add a splint to my nighttime apparel to keep my elbow straight. Doc says surgery is inevitable if I want to regain feeling and full use of my hand (I'm choosing not to believe that). Apparently I was never meant to sleep easily, sigh...
