S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
Hi,
I was unsuccessful in searching for this topic....here's the issue: After downloading my data, I re-inserted the SD card back into the S9 and the screen displayed this message " Please Wait, Erasing SD Card Data". I immediately ejected the card since it's the first time I've seen this message and wasn't sure if I wanted my data erased. Now the message is stuck on the screen even after I inserted the card back in. Anyone has come across this before? And how do get rid of this message?
Thank you

Try unplugging the machine, wait a minute and plug it back in.

Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
If you have already downloaded the data from the card to your computer, then all the data is stored on your computer assuming you downloaded "all available data".
I would now do a fast format of the card using Fat32. I normally do this every week, or whenever anything unexpected happens.

I would suggest reading the S9's Clinicians (Providers) Manual and the ResScan manual.

Unplugging any data device while it's being used is a sure way to foul it up. Thinking we can remove a device before the writing starts doesn't work, our hands aren't that fast. Jim

Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
When I stick my SD card back into my s9, a window pops open that says " reading SD card". So I guess I'm ok. Right?
Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
Yep, just leave it alone and let it do its thing. Sleep well tonight and check your data tomorrow or whenever.

You should be, but "reading" does not preclude corrupted data.

Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
I just got the same message after opening up the care using the ResScan software. Odd, before installing the software, I installed the card in my computer and was able to see the files, but upon putting it back in the S9, just got the "Reading data from card" message. I've only got one night of data, so I'm not too worried, and the machine seems to have last night's data. I want to view my data, but I don't want to erase the card if the Dr. needs to see it, too. Any tips on why this happens or how to start using the software?

Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
I had a problem with my card last night too. After taking it out of my computer I went to put it back in my cpap machine. The screen read, "invalid sd card. erase data?" Anyone ever have this happen before?
Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
No one has been backing me up, but I've had this problem several times. I reformat the card in my computer and it solves the issue.

I read your comment about this earlier, but was hoping there was another solution. I don't understand why the card should need to be reformatted.greg-g wrote:No one has been backing me up, but I've had this problem several times. I reformat the card in my computer and it solves the issue.

Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
I use a 4 Gb SHDC card (A similar card to the ResMed card) in my Nikon Camera and many people recommend you reformat your card every time you download photo's. It just makes for more reliable operation.
It will erase all data from the card, but all data except the high frequency data is stored in the S9, and you should also have a full copy of all data on your computer.
I don't know of any downside to reformatting the card. Maybe someone else can make a comment about this issue.

Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
As a longtime IT guy, I would suggest that simply because the machine says "reading data" does not mean that said data is not corrupted. Presumably you have been downloading the data onto your computer regularly so it is indeed saved or backed up, however you wish to look at it. My guess is that the card filled up and was making room. Your best bet, as an IT guy, would be to reformat that card before making too much use of it. If you hit a corrupt sector on the card you are going to have a mess. Reformatting the card sort of sets all of the lines or streets all in a row again so that you can park your cars (data) on those streets cleanly and reliably.snoresliketrain wrote:When I stick my SD card back into my s9, a window pops open that says " reading SD card". Fact is, that as an IT guy, I highly recommend that one backs up their hard drive (the 1.5 Terrabyte hard drives are so cheap these days) regularly and every six months or a year one reformats the hard drive to clean things out. If you really want to do it right, you will reinstall the operating system from scratch, the software from scratch and then restore your data from the backup external drive. (laptops)
In my desktop workstation(s) I have, for some years, had a policy of buying a big honkin' hard drive and installing it as a second drive, never turning off the workstation and having it back up automatically each night (generally my data only, which is always stored in a seperate DATA ONLY directory). I have had workstations blow up on me but have never lost data. And if you really don't want the hassle of reinstalling all the OS and software you can use a disaster recovery type backup that will allow you to restore your system in one swoop. I have mine set up generally to give me the option of doing either. On mission critical systems we have multiple redundancy; backups of critical data to another workstation on the network so that we don't miss a beat, a mirrored external drive AND a RAID5 hot swappable array so that if one of the drives in the array fail, I get paged and simply pop in a replacement - the system rebuilds the data on the drive without skipping a beat. It all depends on what you are looking for. For what it's worth. Just remember to back up your data regularly. I think I paid $189 for the 1.5 TB drive at Walmart. Cheap insurance.
Back to the SD ramcard; I think if it were me I would be inclined to reformat the thing to be safe.

Re: S9: Please Wait....Erasing SD Card Data
Okay, I guess my question then is what data is stored on the S9 and what data is stored in the data card? Is the data card the main storage for the machine? Does the machine only store compliance and not the other details (AHI, leakage, etc.)? My machine ereased my card last night. Now, this morning, it tells me I've only used my machine for one night. If I regularly download data from my card, and either reformat it or the machine erases it, will that mean that the machine won't record the TOTAL usage? I really don't care, and I'll talk to my doctor about this next week, I just want to know what's going on. I SUPPOSE, if the machine is designed with the thought that only the doctor is going to be looking at the card, then it might make sense to have the machine erase the card each time. Why not? I did find it interesting that I could read the data on the card without using the software and the machine did not erase it. If that is really the case, and I should confirm that, it would indicate that I could download the data to my computer, remove the card, then let the software read the data from my computer's hard drive. Somewhere, it appears that the software is setting some flag/file on the card that tells the machine to erase it.
Anyone know the data format? I'd rather do this on my linux machine and if the data format is known, I'll write my own data reader.
