help postion papcap chinstrap?!

Post by ephskiing377 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 3:47 pm

Fellow cpapers,
I use the papcap chinstrap. I was wondering if any of you that use the papcap chinstrap could help me. I don't know where to put the chinstrap so that I get the best angle to keep my mouth shut. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and help. I look forward to hearing from my fellow cpapers that use the papcap chinstrap by pur-sleep.

Sincerely,
Chad

I position the strap at the forward tip of my chin so it actually slightly wraps up the front. I also have cut off all velcro straps that I don't use.

Am I missing something? I thought a full face mask was supposed to negate the need for a chin strap. I recently noticed that I have begun to mouth breathe and I was considering a ffm so that I wouldn't have to use a chin strap. I don't mean to hijack the thread but can someone please explain?

Thanks!

Hello,
You don't always have to wear a chinstrap with a full face mask. The reason some people wear them is to prevent the jaw dropping during rem sleep which would cause the mask seal to break. That is the only reason why people would use a chinstrap with a full face mask. I hope this makes you better understand.

Sincerely,
Chad

Yes you are missing something.

The lower strap of a FF mask generally cranks your lower jaw open and the chinstrap opposes that force to prevent the slack jaw syndrome.

Hope that splains.
