Pap Cap Help

Post by momof2inmn » Sun Jul 18, 2010 8:47 am

I was never a mouth breather before but in the past few months I find that I have a pasty (but not dry) mouth in the morning and am waking myself up with the noise of the air coming from my mouth.

I purchased the Pap Cap a few weeks ago and used it for a few nights, then gave up for awhile and tried it again a few nights ago. My problems are that I am waking up feeling really groggy and there is so much downward pressure that the cap pushes my face down and I end up with eyelids so swollen that they go over my eyelashes. I didn’t have that groggy feeling before so I am assuming that it’s coming from my face being so swollen.

I tried to adjust that cap as tight as I could so that the strap couldn’t pull the cap down but that didn’t help. The cap is so tight I can’t get it off my head without undoing the Velcro at the back so I know it’s not sliding down.

I am very sensitive to pressure by my ears and neck and get headaches very easily (can’t put my hair behind my ears or I get a headache) but so far I haven’t gotten any headaches that I am aware of.

Am I adjusting the strap incorrectly? Is there anything that I can do to make this work for me? The cap is actually very comfortable and I don’t get hot with it on so I’d like to make it work if possible.

Any thoughts or advice??

Thanks!

Well...I had some of the same issues with it sliding down over my eyes. Could be the PapCap works better for people without tiny heads?! At any rate, I rolled up the edges to keep it out of my eyes and off my ears (using safety pins to keep it rolled up) and that seems to work.

Not sure if tightening it so much you can barely pull it off your head is good....nor would I over-tighten the chinstrap. I don't sleep well if I do that. Try to make it snug..but not too snug. It's a delicate balance...

Maybe that's part of my problem. I have the chin strap really tight so that I can't just open my mouth and breathe, which then pulls down A LOT on the cap. How do you keep your mouth closed if the strap is just snug?

Have you tried asking Bret for his thoughts?

No, I thought he'd see it here and so would others who may have had the same issue. Trying to kill two birds with one stone I guess.

For me, the chinstrap is just a reminder not to open my mouth...weird as that sounds. It's just tight enough for my jaw not to drop open...but not so tight I can't still open my mouth a little. Anyway...just give it a whirl. It's like people say about the masks...tighten....but not too tight!

Yes. There is no need to over tighten ... simply get it snug.

Over tightening will cut off blood flows and cause congestions and swelling.

For me, chinstraps alone do not work (even PapCap). I still end up with air leaking out between my lips.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
