Camping with the S9 Easiest Solution....

Post by Biggie_D » Sun Jul 18, 2010 1:53 am

Hi all,

I just wanted to know the most easiest solution for my upcoming camping trip. I will be camping for 3 nights in a Tent (Very Large One). I will have my Truck Near By as well IE: Not far from the Tent.

I dont have ALOT of money to spend on a super solution so I am turning to all of yall for help. I have read a few threads and most of them made me confused with all the Pure Sine this and 2 Batteries that as well as stringing up 2 Batteries and this and that.

So if anyone has done a camping trip and used s simple solution to get them through the weekend please let me know...

Thank you so very much..

PS: I would like to use the humidifier in I guess what is referred to as passover? Hooked up with water in it but not on? Not sure. It is very dry here and any little thing would help.

Once again thank you for any help.

yes, passover means not turning on the humidifier, but having water in it. you will still get a little moisture but not nearly as much as you do at home. if you leave the humidifier turned off you can use a cheaper inverter or a 12v adapter from resmed. if you turn on the humidifier you will need a PURE SINE inverter to avoid damage, which is about 5 times the price. i have a deep cycle battery, 50ah. with the humidifier turned off it lasts about 31 hours. if i turn it on half power it only works for 6.5 hours. depending on how long your camping trip is you may be able to use only 1 battery, but i would test it for a few nights at home first so you have no surprises with battery life.

Your S9 without the humidifier will eat a bit less than 10 amp-hours a night.

You could get a normal inverter and hook it to your truck's cigarette lighter/power port (if it is on without the key/engine running) or directly to the battery (assuming the inverter power leads/clips have fuses) and work it that way.

Something like THIS.

You would want to run the truck "a while" each day so that your 3 days of camping doesn't draw down the battery so low that it won't start your truck. If you're using the truck to drive anywhere that would be OK right there.

Not sure it gets any easier until ResMed comes out with a battery pack for this model...

The S8 and earlier ResMed models required a pure sine wave inverter to use the humidifier, however that is not true for the S9. See the ResMed battery guide at:
http://www.resmed.com/us/patients_and_f ... c=patients
Click on the Travel Information on the right side of the screen.

The S9 by itself requires: Modified sine wave - 150 watt
The S9 with H5i humidifier requires: Modified sine wave - 200 watt

That said, if you use the humidifier, it will draw a LOT of power--significantly more than just the blower (see the battery size chart in the same document I refer to above). So, if you are running off battery power, you are best off not using the humidifier (at least not heated).
