Changed equipment and now can't sleep
Hi Everyone! I started on CPAP 3-1/2 years ago, and after the initial "shock" and adjustment, was doing very well. Recently, though, I upgraded my machine and mask, and now am having difficulty sleeping. My new machine is a respironics system one, and I changed from a Mirage Quattro full face to the Liberty hybrid mask. After solving the problem of the nasal pillow leaks, I'm having trouble adjusting to a new noise. I'm hearing "breathing" noises, which seem to be coming from the tubing. I've tried switching back to my old mask, and that doesn't help. Using earbuds and listening to binaural beats seems to help me fall asleep, but the buds become uncomfortable and wake me up, and there's the breathing noise again.
I miss the comforting "normal" noise of my old machine! Has anyone else had a hard time switching over to new equipment? Where is this noise coming from?

Hi, I had the same trouble, but turned off the A-flex, which I don't need anyhow, and the noise is almost gone (now a 1/10 vs an 8/10).

The System one does seem to transmit breathing noises, most can get used to it over time. You might try moving the unit lower so the sound is not tranmitted right to your ear. A lower night stand, some even put them on the floor.

Care to share what make/model your old machine was for comparison?sleepybird wrote:Hi Everyone! I started on CPAP 3-1/2 years ago, and after the initial "shock" and adjustment, was doing very well. Do you happen to know the settings of either the old or new machines?
Oh and what was "normal" for you?

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

If you lower your machine, which is a good idea, do try to keep it a few inches above the floor. This will help to avoid dust, etc....

I sleep with a small fan running about 5 feet away from me. I does not blow air at me. I find that the steady hum of the fan makes the noise of my Bi-PAP less-noticeable.

I had this problem with the PR System One Auto. It drove me nuts. I constantly was trying to adjust my pillow away from my ear so as not to exacerbate the sound. I actually liked Cflex + on, as somehow it seemed to minimize the part of the sound that was most annoying to me. I also sleep with 3 noise machines!

Re: Changed equipment and now can't sleep
The noise from my machine is successfully drowned out by the two fans I use now. I used to have the same problem. I also covered my machine with a folded towel, which helps. You might try getting one of those CPAP hose wraps for your hose. They help with condensation, and a little with the noise.

Re: Changed equipment and now can't sleep
Thanks for all the responses, everyone! I'll try lowering the machine and see if that helps. The old machine was a Fisher Paykel Sleepstyle (600 I think) with a heated hose. It was set at 7, now I'm at a 9. I'm not sure about any c-flex or a-flex settings. I use the ramp feature.
With my old machine and mask, I was used to the blowing sound of the machine and the "fan" sound from the exhaust vents on the mask, but didn't notice a breathing noise.

Re: Changed equipment and now can't sleep
Many of us find the noise transmitted via the hose annoying, many of us get used to it. The breathing noise is for me distracting; I notice it less when I turn my fan on or face away from the machine. My APAP sits below the surface of my mattress on a 1-step library stepstool.
