Well, I'm making some progress with my CPAP. I'm sleeping from about midnight to 5:30am. This is still too little sleep altogether, but better than the pre-CPAP days of midnight to 2:30am! The mental trick--these days anyway--seems to be finding ways to get back to sleep between the 5:30am-8:30am timeslot. I'm not that great at it, unfortunately.
Any suggestions? Anybody else finding they sleep a bit better, but still awaken too early?
Thanks,

Do you have software to see if an event or a leak woke you up? Or did you roll onto your back, which resulted in apneas?
Other suggestions: black-out curtains or sleep mask, ear plugs, some gentle stretches with mask and machine on, or just focus on inhaling and exhaling and relaxing with each exhale. Changing to a different mask, if the one you had was uncomfortable in any way. Fluffing up pillow, adding or subtracting blankets.

Yeah, that's what I've been trying. It's moderately successful on occasion. Tapes wouldn't work, though: too distracting. The mask is perfectly comfy though, and I'm not physically in pain.unadog wrote:Relaxation tapes (actually mp3's.)
Progressive relaxation, visualization, meditation. Takes my mind off of all the aches and pains, noises, mask discomfort, etc. Along with ear plugs. Really helps a lot, also for going to bed at night!
I don't have any good ones handy. But there are free ones online in a few places. One Buddhist site, etc. Maybe others can provide links?
Good luck!
Michael
I think part of it is that it's really difficult to convince my body to go *back* to sleep when it knows that dawn is around the corner. I'm fine at getting to sleep initially, but crummy at it later on. I need some way to trick myself into sinking back into the land of sleep

I haven't downloaded the software yet, but I intend to next week. When I last checked my CPAP data, my leak rate was somewhere around 0.1%, so I don't think that's it. And for the most part I'm a pretty stable side sleeper, so I don't think it's a position-induced awakening.KatieW wrote:Do you have software to see if an event or a leak woke you up? I've got black-out curtains, but honestly they're not so great. I should get better ones. The mask itself is comfy, and I'm pretty good at meditating and controlling my breathing.
