Ongoing challenges

Post by prayerful-one » Sun Jul 11, 2010 6:06 pm

Well I have been cpap compliant for about 7-8 months. Due to ongoing significant fatigue I have been checked head to toe from several doctors and physically I am in good shape. However,This fatigue is debilitating. My endrocinologist is telling me to look further in to my apnea treatment or possible seek consultation for chronic fatigue syndrome. I am truly overwhelmed! I finally talked my sleep doc in to getting me a data capable machine. 1 week ago I started using a remstar auto aflex machine with cflex. It is set up for straight cpap, with a setting of 12cm. I was retitrated aproximately 3 months ago. I do not have the software for my machine however, the reader on the machine shows that my ahi is 2.1, I am not having any major leaks and I have a periodic breathing of 6%.
I plan on getting the smart card to my sleep doc after I track more hours. Any feedback or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Hi, has your family MD checked your blood work lately for any possible problems (unrelated to OSA)? How about your thyroid? Are you getting enough hours of sleep, with or without Cpap? Without knowing more - and not being doctors here - it's hard to guess at what might be the problem as your Cpap does seem to be on track with a good machine, decent AHI and mask. I know you said you've been checked head to toe, but was it recent?

Yes I have been checked head to toe by an internist and an endricinologist. I just completed in depth physicals. Additionally, I average 6-7 hours of sleep.

I agree with Julie.

What pressure were you at with your previous machine? How long have you been on your new pressure of 12 cm.?

Some things can take a LONG time to be restored.......even after the therapy is working properly. And, a sufficient amount of sleep is necessary in most cases. I came to the conclusion that I need at least 7 hours of sleep.

Taking charge of your own therapy is the first step.

From my experience I will say that it is near impossible to say leaks are OK without looking at your daily details in the software. We have all been known to sleep right thru some major leaks. Others take off their mask w/o knowing it. I think w/o the software you will just spin your wheels.

I don't mean taking you card into the DME once a month or once a week. You need to look daily while the events will be fresh in your mind AND you can take corrective action.

I do have chronic fatigue syndrome. CPAP use has not resolved my fatigue in the least, although it has cleared up some other issues, like night-time and morning headaches. My sleep doc gave me samples of Nuvigil. It's marvelous! I've been taking 75 mg/day for the past month and feel NORMAL for the first time in ages. Nuvigil is usually prescribed for shift work disorder and is not yet FDA approved for CFS.

Does the sleep you get feel deep and restful, or is it broken and restless? Has anyone told you you move or kick a lot in your sleep? Was there anything mentioned in any of your studies about limb movements?
