s9 questions

Post by terio2 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 7:03 am

S9 ?'s If you reset for defualt, will it give me the correct month. Resmed won't tell you and a pain to go to DME just for that. My S9 shows August now. Starting reading a month ahead. The graph start 00;00 on nites before midnight after midnight 2:00 but comparing the nights before midnight still doesn't start off at the same time say 10:30 to 5:30 week nites and say 1 am to 7:30 a.m. Usuall sleep times

Thank you,
Sherry

I have another S9 question, Sherry I hope you don't mind if I piggyback on your item, I just don't want to start a whole new item for this when there are already many for S9 questions.

My question: How can I tell if the humidifier is working? In the morning, there's plenty of water in the tank, possibly about as much as I put in the night before. The plate is not warm at all. I've been using the standard slimline hose and humidifier is set at 3 or 4 out of 6.

This could be explained by the fact that it's been quite humid in the midwest lately. Maybe the machine senses the humidity in the room and therefore doesn't add much humidity itself. But I thought this kind of intelligent humidification only worked with the climateline hose, which so far I haven't been using.

Is your humidifier plate warm in the morning? Can you see a significant drop in the water level of the tank when you wake up? Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi

You have to get into the Clinician menu to change the Date and Time settings. Hold down the button on the lower right corner of the display (it has two ticks on it) and press the round button to the right of it at the same time and hold for three seconds to enter the Clinician Menu. Rotate the round button to the second menu item on the list and press the button to select that menu. Rotate the button to get to the Date menu item and press the button again to select that item. On mine (Australia) It first starts on the Year, once that is correct, press the button to confirm the setting. It will then go to the Month (on mine) so you can rotate to get the correct month, then press the button again to get the Day etc. Then go the the time if required. All this sets the internal real time clock of the S9.

Hope that helps.

The details are in the Clinician manual and that can be downloaded from the RESMED site I believe.

Ron

In response to the new question about the humidifier water use. I also get little water consumption with the standard hose but the plate does heat up. A lot more water is used with the Climatline Hose as it works on 80% humidity at the temperature selected. I do not use the Climateline hose as I find the standard hose comfortable in my climate. I have not tried it without the humdifier yet.

yep, once I was careless while filling in the water, obviously it was not enough ...
next morning (with Climateline hose) NO water left at all.
All sucked in.

I set my humidifier at 2 and the plate is cold when I turn the machine off in the am. During the summer I didn't use any heat with my Respironics and it used a lot more water than my S9. I'm also not sure my S9 humidifier is working properly. I filled it a week ago and set at 2 it still has a good bit of water in the chamber.

My plate was only cold when I dropped the Temperature below 16°, ie. TEMP = OFF.
(while ClimateControl = Auto)

I was instructed to use the standard hose with the S9 alone _or_ S9 + H5 humidifier together with the Climate Line.
So do you connect the standard hose to the H5?

Ron, I have the same issue - my humidifier plate stays cold unless the setting is at 5 or 6. I am in Houston and is pretty humid here in the summer.

I find that the amount of water varies depending on the humidity. Some nights little water is used and others the tank will be almost empty.

With my old Respironics not using heat during summer I would add water daily. My new S9 set at 2 I haven't filled for a week. Seems after a week set at 2 it has finally used as much water as my Respironics would in a day without using any heat.

As a test I set it at 4.5 and the plate did get warm.

Is this normal for an S9?

GTOJim, I checked your configuration (standard hose @ H5 humidifier).
My plate was only cold with HUMIDITY = OFF, it was increasingly warm on higher humidity settings.

The amount of water, which has to be added by the Humidifier depends of course on the settings for humidity & temperature, on the (absolute) humidity of the incoming air (depends on climate zone, season time, day time etc.) and also on the amount of air crossing the machine (depends on selected pressure(s), mask leaks, body parameters & conditions, sleep depths & phases and so on and on).

I think the temperature range varies on the chosen humidity, so for a wanted humidity in the hose or nose, both parameters can substitute each other partly.

Summary: If the plate is heating up on high TEMP & HUMID - settings (accompanied by the appropriate Message on the display when starting treatment) and cooling down (again accompanied by the appropriate Message on the display when stopping treatment), I think it is all right with the plate.
IMHO, most importantly the whole system should be able to deliver to the nose a level of humidity you like.

Thanks for the information. I just returned, out of town for a few days.

It seems if I use the preheat feature the plate gets warm.

I normally just turn the machine on when going to sleep, in the morning the plate is cold when I wake. I've set the humidifier at 4 and the plate is cold in the am.

I'm think something is wrong with my new S9.

On my trip as a test I used the preheat but had to use the restroom during the night. Returning from the restroom I turned the machine on, the plate was cold when I woke in the am.
