Help installing Encore Pro 2.2 on XP machine!

Post by RegD » Mon Apr 26, 2010 7:44 pm

I can't seem to install Encore Pro 2 on my XP machine!

These are the files I have:
EncoreSmartcardSetup.exe
EP2Setup.exe
L1066548b00.pdf
L1066559b00.pdf
L1066560b00.pdf
Readme.txt
WindowsInstaller 4.5.exe

I ran WidnowsInstaller 4.5.exe to make sure I had the latest version.

When I run EP2Setup.exe, it asks me what language I want. I select English and the select next. As soon as I select "next", it takes me to a screen that says "reboot required" and it hasn't even installed anything!

Can someone please walk me through this? Thanks. Reg.

Silly Q? but what does the Readme.txt say?

Nothing that help with the install: (exact copy paste)

Run windows Update for all critical updates and add all .net framework

Consult the ReadMe.txt file to obtain the initial Username and Password. After logging into the application, you will be prompted to change
your password. Additional information is available in the following downloadable manuals: After logging into the application, you will be prompted to change your password. For additional information about resetting your password,
Consult the online help.

In order to log into the EncorePro 2 application for the first time, you must use the following initial username and password:
username: EncoreAdmin
password: password1

Run windows Update for all critical updates and add all .net framework

I had a search and could not find anything specific about the "rebooting issue". If you can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

RegD

I have XP home with service pack 3.

As you I ran WinsowsInstaller 4.5 first, then EP2Setup.exe, I get the same message to reboot I don't remember if it asked about the language before wanting to reboot. But I can say I found that weird it wanted to reboot at that precise moment; I rebooted and tried again the EP2Setup.exe, then that worked. Did you reboot and tried again?

Yes, after I reboot it seems to run EP2Setup.exe automatically at the next reboot and then asks me to reboots again! It's a vicious circle. Not sure what to do anymore. Here's the install log:

I'm having the same problem. Did you ever solve it?

This is sometimes a bug with installshield. Something on your computer never completely finished installing and is causing Installshield to think the computer needs a reboot to complete this earlier install. Normally this is a windows update that didn't install correctly. I had some mobile phone software I couldn't install due to this.

If you run windows update or microsoft update usually just installing one new patch will cleanup the previous information and clear the error with installshield. If this doesn't work try the "Why Reboot" utility which should tell you what settings are waiting to be applied at reboot. You may then be able to uninstall the offending patch or remove the rogue settings from the windows registry if you know how.

Thank you 8hours for your tip about using "Why Reboot".
Had exactly the same problem as above (reboot loop) - in my case the culprit was the messy Logitech camera software that interfered with EncorePro installation.
Hope this helps to others with similar problem.
