resmed card reader not recognized any more
Hi all. Coming up on my 1yr anniversary with CPAP this week. I haven't been around the forum for ages but now have a question. I never had a problem reading my data from the ACR reader into the 3.7 software until a week ago. Now there is no audible sound when I insert the reader into any of the USB ports (and they are all functioning properly). If I go ahead and try to run the software and download, I get the msg 'THERE ARE NO DEVICES AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOADING DATA. CONNECT A FLOW GENERATOR OR DATA CARD AND TRY AGAIN.' I remember ages ago advice was to disable the wireless card and it would fix the problem. I tried that and still the same problem. I am using the same computer as always and have tried 2 different cards in the reader, but it really is that the reader is not recognized. Any ideas would be welcome.

Did it coincidentally occur after applying Microsoft patches or updates? That's where I'd be inclined to look. I'm not familiar with your ResMed software, but I know there were incidents in the past where Encore Pro software would fail after the user updated XP with Service Pack 3 (and possibly other updates).

I can't say if it was right after an update or not ... sorry. I have Vista on my laptop. Can't think of anything 'I' changed to caused this. If it did happen after an update, what can I really do about it? I select only the necessary updates to Windows to go through.

I don't know. I'm not a Vista user, so I'll defer to other users who may have any ideas for you.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the card reader driver?

Another idea: If you have access to another computer, you might try plugging into it to see if that computer recognizes the card reader. This will tell you whether the problem lies with the card reader or with your main computer.

I'm workin' on it.
Re: resmed card reader not recognized any more
You may want to try this: when you get to no devices detected, just click ok; at the download; put your card in the reader and then plug in your card reader (don't plug your card reader and card before; I had to do this before I could get it to recognize the reader.

Re: resmed card reader not recognized any more
Well, there is success ... thank you. I uninstalled / reinstalled the drivers on my Vista laptop (my main computer) and that worked. I guess it was corrupt. Prior to that, I booted up my XP desktop and the card reader was read successfully. It also read okay on my travel Vista netbook. After this test on my netbook, I went to apply the latest necessary Windows updates and there was an optional update for the ACR38 card reader. This did not show up in the updates for my laptop, possibly due to the fact that the driver had ? disappeared. I agreed to the update, and just noticed, that it has failed. I think I will leave well enough alone and not attempt another installation.

Re: resmed card reader not recognized any more
Glad you posted this question. I was going to post a similar one, and have it on good authority that Wulfman Den (not to be confused with D.J. Wolfman Jack) is "the man" on this kind of thing. My situation is a bit different. Changed computers, reinstalled Encore Pro, but card reader is not recognized. Updates were run on this computer, I think before the reinstall. I have a vague memory of there being instructions on here about going into Encore Pro's files and checking off something. Any clues Den or anyone else?

New computer? One you already had?
Which operating system?
Which version of Encore Pro?
Need a few more details, Kathy.

You might have malware. If you don't have anti-malware go to CNET downloads and download "Malwarebytes" and do a complete scan of your computer. It's free and and does a damn good job of removing that nasty stuff. Malware will make your computer do crazy things.
Re: resmed card reader not recognized any more
If you're using EP 1.8, there's an option in the menus for selecting the type of card reader connection. Check to see if it's defaulting to serial......should be USB.kteague wrote:Glad you posted this question. When you reinstalled EP, did you have your card reader connected to the computer? It should not be connected until after the software is installed and a re-boot is done. Then (I think) run the Setup.exe (from the install CD) to install the card reader driver and then connect the card reader.
There may be some other threads about installing 1.8, but I found this one from RG.

Re: resmed card reader not recognized any more
Just as a matter of interest you should know that the seating of the card in the reader is an issue that has never been addressed by ResMed; so make sure that your card is actually being seen when you plug it in. It's a matter of trial and error. If the card is not being seen the reader will not be seen either. A little wiggling usually resolves the issue.

Re: resmed card reader not recognized any more
I had this problem pop up yesterday...and I have tried your suggestions (except for the reinstalling one) and so no go. I didn't manually update anything...perhaps an automatic update did something to disable my card reader?
I cannot find the disk I used to install the card driver...not yet anyway. I have Windows XP.
This is driving me a little batty!

SleepyT, the following website is where you can get the drivers. Choose the one to match your computer system for the ACR38.
http://www.acs.com.hk/index.php?pid=drivers&id=ACR38
The first time you run it, select to uninstall the driver, then run it again and do a fresh install. Drivers, like anything in life, can just hiccup.
