Hi forum,
I received a new Swift FX after three months of use of my first one. At the time I changed over I had been having more leaking, but I was also not sleeping as well and moving around a lot at night which I thought was the problem. However when I first cleaned my new pillows and short hose, I noticed that they looked different than the ones I had been using for the previous three months. I am not sure if there has been a slight change in the product, or if my first ones just wore out over the three months. I just had sinus surgery, so I am putting my CPAP away for three weeks, and when I was cleaning it all again I took some pics to share.
I took these pictures to illustrate the differences i am seeing between my first, and my three month replacement Swift FX.
Old and new hoses, note the change in color and length new is shorter, and lighter in color:

New Med Pillow. Note that the outer layer is firm, has some thickness, and is very close and well aligned with the inner layer:

Old Med Pillow, note that the outer layer is thin, further away, and not well aligned with the inner layer:

These changes over the three months could just be ware and tear. If it was just time and use that stretched the outer layer of the pillow that would account for the wear and leaking some people are experiencing. The hose changing color, and stretching out, I cannot explain, other than if it just stretches with use. It will be interesting to see how this new replacement wears. In three months when I get my next replacement I guess I will know for sure if it is wear, or changes to the product.
Note, there was no part number change on the package, but the lot numbers were of course different.
Regards,
Brooks, aka Skier757

It sounds like the new pillows are better that the older ones.
Could you provide length measurements for the hoses?

In another FX thread someone mentioned that ResMed has switched its manufacturing from China to Australia--I wonder if that's why they are different. I could see the differences in the pillows being due to wear and tear, but not the hose.

I wonder which ones cpap.com are currently shipping out
Re: Swift FX, pics of new and old changes with new repl
My original LT pillows(the ones that were packaged with the mask) were made in Australia. Later replacements were made in China, but I don't have any of them.
My original FX pillows were made in China. Comparing them to the original LT, I find that the outer layer of the FX "cone" is thinner than that of the LT. I can feel that deforming the LT's outer wall takes more force than for the FX. The same comparison it true for the body of the pillows.

I agree with you i also wonder if the climaline hose issues that Uncle Bob encountered may have something of this same nature as far as the manufacturing process ( China vs Australian ) if that is the reason that Resmed switch their process to Australia.... that is if the climaline hoses were also manufactured in China, i dont really know is just a thought. I remember reading a thread By Uncle Bob on problems with these hoses i myself have not encountered any so far and is goin on 2 months of used....consider myself lucky i guess
