Top of Mouth Dry and Cold

Post by sheltie » Tue Jun 22, 2010 10:40 am

I have a ResMed 3i Humidaire compact CPAP machine and a ResMed Mirage Activa mask. Every night, sometime during the night, the top of my mouth gets totally dry and cold. It takes awhile to "work up" a little saliva so I can swallow. I only use distilled water in the machine and my setting is about 1/2 way on the dial, although I've tried several different settings. Does anyone have any recommendations to help me solve my problem?

Hopefully this isn't a duplicate. If it is, please pardon me.

I, too, am a mouth breather. However, I wear a chin strap and don't believe I breathe through my mouth when I sleep. I'm looking for other possibilities.

Chin straps aren't always that effective - don't keep your lips from letting air out, and your not believing your a mouth breather (so why are you wearing a strap?) doesn't mean it's not happening. At least try taping for a couple of nights to see how it goes.

Julie,

I stated that I AM a mouth breather but I didn't think that I did it at night. The only reason I can say that is because my wife says I don't. She is the one eight years ago who clued me in to my problem (stopped breathing and snored). Instead of taping the silence at night, I'd probably do better to tape my lips!

I hate to harp on, but does your wife really stay awake ALL night? You might not MB for a few initial hours, but from 3-7, isn't anything possible? Isn't it worth at least trying?
