hoses

Post by needanap » Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:29 am

I'm another newbie and trying to adjust. ( 5 nights so far) I think I can....I think I can....
The downward facing hose seems to get in my way - should I try the kind of mask that goes up over the forehead?

I like my hose facing upward too but never felt comfortable with a mask hose clipped to my forehead. You can certainly try that but not all masks offer that option. You could also try routing the hose along a bed post or getting some kind of hose management system that keeps it suspended upwards.
Hang in there - for the most part it gets easier everyday.....especially when you start feeling (so much) better!

Hi There and Welcome!
Look up hose management on this forum, either click on the light bulb or type in "hose management" or "hose hanger", and you will see a bunch of great ideas to keep the hose out of your way. I use a plant hanger attached to my headboard and run my hose along my headboard with a couple of loops of elastic. Now it hangs over my head out of the way.
Cheers and good luck
Nan

Have a look at the online suppliers as well under accessories, etc., and you will find hose management goodies. I use a simple clip with velcro loop to manage my hose, which is routed up and away from my face - the hose holder/router is clipped to a large book on my headboard. When I travel I have a metal hose support with the same clip on it and it slides under the mattress. Makes all the difference in the world. And you can roll over without getting tangled or having the hose hit you in the face.

Thank you for the suggestions.
I relate this Cpap journey with my "reading glasses" journey. It's forever, isn't it? I've got to make it work!

By the way, I keep my low end ResMed Escape II down in the family room/den beside the couch; where it is generally cool air and should be prone to rainout but have not had the problem ever. Must be due to hose routing... I use either the wire hose elevator with clip that sits under the cushions or under the CPAP machine to elevate the hose away from the end table where the machine sits.... or I just use a velcro loop/clip to clip the hose onto the back of the couch. It is so portable and so convenient that I keep one in my travel bag all the time along with spare S8 Autoset II which has not yet been used except to turn it on and make sure it blows air.

Routing your hose and choosing your mask for fit is like 'the never ending story' for some of us. Others try one on and that's it! Now I have the Climate Control hose coming along with my new S9 Auto and can hardly wait to see what that does for me... I will use the same routing accessories.

If you are going to grab the hose above your head try and do so in the middle so that when rolling over at night you have the best shot at not wrapping yourself in hose. Works great for me. Also know a fellow who just picked up some velcro looping at the local computer store and drilled it into the wall above his bed.. whatever works I guess.
