Encore Viewer works in Windows 7 Pro

Post by CROWPAT » Thu Jun 17, 2010 11:59 am

Finally, I got it to work. The Viewer will NOT work in Windows 7 x64 bit without the virtual machine and XP installed.
Steps to get it to work.
1. Install VM and XP in Windows 7 Pro or higher. Leave XP running while you do the rest of this.
2. Disable Integration Features by clicking on Disable Integration Features at the top of the XP screen under Tools.
3. Install Encore Viewer by putting in the CD, going to the XP "My Computer", right clicking on the CD drive to select Explore CD, and double clicking on Setup.exe. Viewer will then install, but expect to qait quite a while while it installs everything.
4. Install the Smart Card Reader software the same way as above, or copy the whole Card Reader folder to the XP desktop (like I did) and install it from there. For some reason I had to copy the files on another computer to a memory stick and then copy them from there to the XP desktop after attaching the memory stick to the XP desktop.
5. Plug in the card reader.
6. Go to the top of the XP window and click on USB devices. It will show an Unidentified Device. Click on it to attach it from the physical computer to XP.
7. XP will recognize it and install the software.
8. Open Encore Viewer software and put your card in the reader.
9. Click on Copy Smart Card Data in the Encore Viewer Program.

You will need a printer installed to print out your reports like usual. I installed one by USB connection in the XP Virtual Machine.
1. Be sure Integration Features are still disabled.
2. Connect your printer USB cable to any USB connection on the computer.
3. You will likely have to install the drivers from your installation CD by running it like usual.
4. Once installed be sure that you have attached it by clicking on it at the USB Devices drop down menu at the top of the XP window.

If you enable the Integration Features all bets are off. I never could get it to work that way.

Hope this helps someone else like so many of you have helped me in the past.

Good walkthrough Pat!

For people that don't care about the backwards compatibility of the program (don't want to use it on non PR1 machines) you can also use the method in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=51779

This alternate method is helpful if you don't have Windows 7 Pro or if you don't want to deal with a virtual machine. I think Pats method is probably cleaner though. I think its just good for all the different methods to be out there so people can figure this stuff out.

Hopefully threads like these can help a lot of people monitor their treatment.

Is this Encore Viewer 1.0 or Encore Viewer 2.0?

Thanks,
CG

I did it with 1.0, but there is no reason the same method won't work with any XP compatible software that requires a card reader.

Ah! good thing you asked, the thread I linked to is about the new version (2.0) I assumed that was what Pat was working with too. (which isn't the case)

Hey all - anyone running Enccoreviewer 2 in a virtual XP session - this question is for you.

(BTW - yes, I upgraded to Win 7 and couldn't get the software run under 7)

I have an SD slot in my laptop, when I put the data card in, the virtual XP session assigns it a drive letter, but encore pro 2 does not let me download data. (It never turn from grayed out to blue). Any suggestions?

Thanks !

For those may be wondering only Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate support the Windows XP mode. XP mode hides the virtual machine from the user once it is set up.

Success - in a round about way. So while there seems to be a number of workarounds to get encore viewer 2 to work under windows 7, here is the winning formula for me.

1. install Microsoft's xp mode. there are three separate files to download and install in a specific order. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx

2. install .net version 2 sp 1 - a prerequisite to encore install. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

3. install encore viewer.

4. i could not get the SD card to show up on the download data screen in encore viewer. It did show up as a mass storage device, but not recognized in the software. i found a sd to usb reader, plugged into USB port on my computer. Plug it in. Select USB from Virtual XP mode menu. It will say "Mass Storage Device" Click on it, and then you should be able to download data in encore viewer.

Good luck!

I thought I would never be able to locate Encore Pro 2.2 but finally found it then encountered the problem with the 64 bit system. Your instructions couldn't be better. Everything installed without a hitch. If I could find equally accurate information on a working mask for a prescribed pressure of 24 cm/water, I would be a happy guy. After about 9 months and half a dozen masks, the best I have been able to locate is the ResMed Liberty Full Face mask. My only problem is until I finally get the top straps of the headgear adjust perfectly I wake up with the bottom of the portion of the mask designed to cover the mouth in my mouth with the alarm sounding. The ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face mask does an excellent job except for tearing up the bridge of my nose. I have tried everything I have been able to identify including the gel pad which prevents achieving a seal, Dr Scholls Mole Skin, band aids and other stuff without much success. I tried lowering pressure to 20 cm/water but results were undesirable.

The most disappointing thing about discovering that apnea is a problem is the ignorance of doctors about masks. They don't have a clue about the difficulty in trying to live with awaking with a malfunctioning mask only to have to become fully awake in the bathroom trying to resolve the problem.

Thanks again for the help.
