Snoring with Hybrid Mask

Post by roster » Tue Aug 29, 2006 5:06 am

I have used the Hybrid mask for 17 full nights. The mask really fits me well (chin strap removed). There are no perceived leaks. I converted from Swift nasal pillows/mouth taping.

I am feeling better, am more active and have less fatigue. My wife reported this morning that I am snoring at night with the Hybrid mask and that she has noticed it on two other nights. My wife sleeps soundly and I could be snoring every night and she would not always hear it. She says when she hears me snoring, she listens for mask leaks and does not hear any.

This is puzzling news because I thought you would just not snore with a full face mask. What’s the deal with this? Is snoring an indication that I may also be having apneas?

I've had the same experience. My wife still sleeps with ear plugs, a habit she developed before I was treated, but she noted on two ocassions that she heard snoring or something like it, only with the Hybrid. I didn't sense any problem the next day, but my VS score was also elevated in MyEncore.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very promising mask, but it seems to behave differently than other masks.

I've been thinking about eventually purchasing a hybrid, whenever my insurance planets are once again neatly aligned, but a return to snoring would be a definite deal-breaker.

Have other hybrid users had the same experience?

Hope that alignment does not include Pluto

OCO,
I have been using the Hybrid for several weeks. I have completely stopped snoring, I had my wife confirm. I used to snore occassionally with the F&P HC431 but the Hybrid has eliminated that.

My guess is everybody reacts differently to different masks. The machine that you use with the mask is also a factor, I think.

Cheers!

What does "VS Score" mean?

I still snored with the ultra marage full face mask and still had leaks but never with the hybrid. I was not tracking my stats at that time so I dont know if the snore was from events or not.

Over the 3 weeks before-and 3 weeks after switching to Hybrid there was no change is VS for me. I started using new headgear last night and the mask felt much more stable on my face-will give it a few nights and check back in with results....Kay

Vibratory Snores

The "score" they are talking about is the "Index". Vibratory Snores Index. The total number of "snores" divided by the number of hours you slept gives the Vibratory Snores Index. That's an average per hour.

Encore Pro software uses these initials in the data reports from Respironics machines:

NR - Non-Responsive Apnea/Hypopnea
OA - Obstructive Apnea
H - Hypopnea
FL - Flow Limitation
VS - Vibratory Snore
ResMed S9 VPAP Auto (ASV)

Mask: Aeiomed Headrest (deconstructed, with homemade straps

All of my numbers are up with the hybrid....10 x or more actually. I need to see the sleep doctor because in spite of high numbers, I sleep very deeply and actually dream. I do awaken with dry mouth even with this one but have allergies so antihistamines could have something to do with that. My AHI has gone from 2 to 4 with the Swift to 20 to 40 with the Hybrid. And now with the bad top strap making further adjustments impossible, I don't know if I'm doing myself damage to continue with this. I do think Innomed let this one out for sale too soon...more actual usage would have shown that the headgear would not hold up.

Owl, I think hybrid has different quality and also different result on every individual. I have some clients that use hybrid and it works. Some of them are still snoring and so they try other method. Why don't you try to use a hybrid first?

If it is not your mask making the noise and you are truly snoring, it sounds like you need your pressure turned up. That is what I do in the lab anyway. Let us know how it pans out!

You still snorin' Rooster? After all, it's only been four years since you posted that question. I guess you really were a newbie once upon a time. Hard to believe.
