generic smart card reader in place of the Risponics

Post by vulcan » Mon Jun 14, 2010 11:40 am

Hi folks, before I spend 65 bucks for a Respironics smart card reader I am trying to determine if one of the regular smart card readers you see advertised would work. Has anyone tried any of them. 8 bucks sure looks better than 65.

Won't work... only the designated one does (which would explain the price!). They used to only be available in China, though apparently are made in the US now.

My computer has built in card reader slots including one for the smart card, and I am able to use that. I have the EncoreViewer 2, I don't know if the older version will allow it.

The old "Smart Card" (used in the Legacy and "M" Series machines) is an completely different animal than the SD card that now comes in the new PR Series One machines. The Mako DT3500 is the only card reader that will work on the older Smart Cards.

I'm using the SD reader built into my Dell laptop and it reads the data from the card with no problems.

The machine I have although new is an older style. The Respironics system One machines seem to use the SD card where as the machine I have uses the older, larger Smart Card. I guess they don't offer a machine configured like this in the system one line. I am using the REMStar BiPAP AutoSV Advanced.

Thanks to all of you for your input

I have a Dell laptop 1545. Does this have a spot to read my smart card?
