A couple of questions from a relative newb...

Post by ksilb » Tue Jun 01, 2010 7:01 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm now about 6 weeks into the hose head adventure and feel so much better about it all after reading this forum and seeing not only all the great advice but also all the support offered. Thanks again to those who have assisted me. And now I have two pretty easy questions I think, but questions nevertheless.

1) Upon all your good advice, I finally secured my cpap prescription today. But I wonder if it is adequate for purchases made online or elsewhere as first it is written to a particular DME, and second it only states "autotitrating cpap with pressures set 12-18. There is no notation about the humidifier, which isn't a big deal since I have one and they don't require a prescription. But where it says "supplies" that is also blank. So my concern is whether this is adequate for purchasing masks on cpap.com or the auction site. Are the masks implied and having it blank like that a good thing so I can get whatever I please? Please advise.

2) I had read some posts regarding cleaning routines and decided I wanted to get some "wipes". I found a suggestion that Clorox "no bleach" wipes would be fine for the masks and cushions/pillows. So I went to a few stores but could not find any of these wipes that were unscented. The least of the scents was "fresh scent" and I have a very sensitive and picky nose and there is no way I could put that on my mask unless the scent totally dissipates once everything is dry. I would appreciate anyone responding who has used these and has a sensitive "sniffer". Does the scent go away? And if the scent remains, is there some other product that can be used other than the wipes on cpap.com? Or is that my best bet (are they unscented?)?

Thanks in advance as always and I'm wishing you all good sleep and sweet dreams. Kathy

Welcome to the forum and the world of hoseheads! Call the wonderful folks at cpap.com and they can tell you if the script you have will be all you need to get your gear. Seriously, they have excellent customer service. It sounds like your doctor might actually know something about how to prescribe, which is great for you. About the wipes, some people are pretty intent on having their masks squeaky clean each day, others prefer a less-frequent cleaning schedule. My skin's so sensitive I would NEVER use any wipes--yikes!--I just wash my mask with a couple of squirts of the gel cleanser I use on my face. So far, so good! Stay in touch!

Wipes are convenient, but you do need to be sure they don't contain ingredients that will hurt your silicone seals or your lungs. A lot of people buy the wipes sold by CPAP suppliers, some swear by alcohol-free baby wipes.

I'm sensitive to fragrances, too, and I can't quite contemplate using any type of wipe for that reason (my "UNscented" deoderant has "fragrance" in the ingredient list--go figure--but that isn't applied anywhere near my nose and lungs).

Personally, I use 7th generation dish soap. This is unscented and has no artificial coloring agents. It's inexpensive at places like Target and Wallmart, and considering that I use just a little squirt each morning, it's going to last a LONG time.

I use Ivory liquid soap to wash my nasal pillows, hose, etc. in...no scent. And then I use Control 3 (from cpap.com) to kill all the germs, viruses, etc. Again...no scent...and it is cheaper than white vinegar over time....

Thank you all so much. I did check with cpap.com and they assured me that the "script" is written in a way that I can use it indefinitely for all cpap equipment and supplies, so I'm set! No more bullying by any particular DME for me...

Any other comments on cleaning would be welcome. The reason I was asking about wipes is that this seems it would be a quick and easy way to clean, in particular when traveling, but also knowing what unscented products others use is helpful. I know that Dr. Bonner's products are considered quite organic and I think good for use with cpap. Just don't have any on hand. Anyway, thanks again.

Off to tackle another night. Been doing so well...had even seen a night of AHI 0.7 and AI of 0.3. Then everything went zooming up again last night with a leak rate of 22.4 I think it was...too high for me to be happy. AHI of 3.2 and AI a little over 2 I think it was. I'm pretty sure it was due to some mouth breathing but it is so odd how every night is a brand new night. I would love to get some consistency, but I'm still trying masks and how to deal with the hose and all of the above. Tonight I'm trying my first "hybrid" mask. Tried to use it last night and was too tired and couldn't even figure out how to get it on...haha Now I've watched the video. Such is the life of a newbie.... Sweet dreams!

Buy WOW Gold would like to introduce the information about the WOW Gold in different versions of WOW.

When Blackwing Lair is released, Hit rating is gradually correctly treated by the Rogue players during the WOW battles. When dealing with Vaelastrasz the Corrupt, the introduced combination of hatred control and continuously and effectively DPS output theory makes up for the blank objective understanding of Rogue in PvE. At the same Kaufen WOW Gold, the PvE method of Rogue u begins to appear. As well, Rogues begin to gradually become a prominent position and is recognized by theteammates in the team.

Later Aion Power Leveling is opened in WOW, the Rogue players play a greater role in PvP, which is good for their WOW power level. Benefiting from the changes of Resistance and Parry rating, the viability of Rogues increases substantially. As well, when casting Cheap Shot, it will not affect the effect of Sap. Besides, the only one second cooling down time of the attack skills and exchanging weapons also makes them do better in PvP.

In addition, the appearance of the Ravenholdt Manor task makes the Rogue players find their position in WOW at first time. At that Metin2 Yang, Rogues also realize that the combination of Hit rating and right talents is important for PvE. As well, the emergence of Shot Bug and the performance of the bow damage, causing WOW Gold sale per second in the battle against Onyxia make other occupations fear about Rogues. Subsequently, the rise of Fast Battle Dagger gradually divides Rogue into Buy WOW Gold.

As soon as the War of Shifting Sands breaks out, the WOW Power Leveling and the Horde players have the first cooperation in WOW. When the bugs of the buffed Deadly Poison and missed Cutting are removed, the Lotro Gold play a more and more important part in Aion Kinah. As a result, more players to act as Rogue. On the other hand, the design of the resetting time about the instances, the weakness of Zulgurub, as well as the buffs of Mages stimulate the PvE ability of Rogues in the battle of Ahn'Qiraj.
