OT A view from the road

Post by carbonman » Sat May 29, 2010 6:45 pm

Out on the road today with my partner, Doug.
We managed to get him a TBP ticket, so now have to get him in condition to do it.
We did the ride around Horsetooth Res and the climb up Big Thompson Canyon
to Drake. A challenging 64miles w/3.6K' of climbing.

The views from the ride, are not only from the road....they
were taken while on the road. I wanted to give you a feel for
actually being on the road.
I managed to stay on the road
and didn't get smacked by a car. BONUS!

The ride winds around and through the ridges of the Hog Back.
The reservoir is built behind ridges of the Hog Back.
It begins w/the easy climb up Buckhorn Ck. to Masonville.

At Masonville, the road begins a serious climb up Redstone Ck.

Almost to the head of the valley.
Image
After a short climb out of Inlet Bay, we are on the res.

Image
There are two short but intense climbs to get to the north end.
It's short, but it does get your attention.
Image
We stopped for a break at the high point, halfway to the north end.
Image
After really fast descent off the Hog Back there are a series of short climbs to
get out of the ridges and to the west side of Ft. Collins.
Image
It is a beautiful area w/beautiful country homes.

What a fun day. Wish you could have been there.

Carbonman, what beautiful photos, thanks for sharing. That first one really does give the impression the viewer is there.

And, love those American placenames, fantastic.

"I managed to stay on the road and didn't get smacked by a car. BONUS!"

That's always a good thing! As a regular bicycle commuter (I didn't drive the car to work even once in April, and only a few times in May, mainly to haul stuff too big for the bike), I get buzzed by motorists without clues from time to time. My rant on this topic is best left to another thread.

More to the point, excellent images as always, CM!
