goofy thing I did last night for mouth breathing..

Post by elena88 » Thu May 27, 2010 2:27 pm

Hi there..

I was wearing my "avatar" fitlife mask last night, but I had some dental work done, and it was too tight around that area on
my face, so I put my favorite F and P nasal pillows on.. ahhhhhhhhhhh, I love those!

I cant mouth tape very often because I cough so much at night..

anyway.. I thought.. WHAT can I do not to mouth breath????

then I remembered the torture stories I made up to make sense of the apap.... when I first started...

( I was sidney bristo from ALIAS.. captured behind enemy lines being tortured with the apap)

mmm, so I thought, what could I think of which would make me NOT want to open my mouth in the night?

( then the dog farted)

AHA! now theres a good reason! BUT, I needed EVEN a better one! So, I told my self..

THE BEDROOM IS FILLED WITH POISONOUS AMMONIA GAS, IF YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH AND BREATH IN YOURE DEAD, DEAD, DEAD!!!!
DO NOT OPEN YOUR MOUTH TO BREATH IN!!!

I guess it planted well enough in my subconscious, because I did not wake up with sahara mouth this morning!

I could think about the dog fart and that would do it. I was being inventive last night also because of my mouth breathing. I had a very soft terrycloth headband that was wide and velcro'd together. I put it just at the bottom of my chin with the velcro on top of my head. Then I put my regular headgear on and it worked. My faced looked really smooshed up for an hour or so but the markings were gone by the time I left for work. Necessity is the mother of invention. I thought about cutting out the middle of a toddler swimsuit and making some kind of chin strap. Thought about pantyhouse but they roll up too bad.I have a small head.

oh those are some great inventions! sounds like you made your very own PAPCAP!

love the toddler swimsuit idea!

oh, and first night, desert mouth! that is a shame!

I also learned to my dismay that dry mouth can cause gingivitis..

so we need to all keep our traps shut somehow!

keep those tips and stories coming!

Elena,

It looks like you might be able to jury rig a chin strap with an old nylon stocking perhaps tied to each of the side straps that support the pillows on the Opus 360--maybe that would help you keep your mouth shut (the phrase "keep your mouth shut" always makes me think of the other kind of keeping your mouth shut--LOL ). Then you can pretend you are gagged in your litle scenario.

Ask your dentist about a product (darn, I forget the name) that is a spray and a mouthwash specifically for dry mouths. My dentist gave me a sample but I didn't use it because I'm sensitive to Sorbitol which is in the product.

Last night i used a bandana tube, and straped it from the top of my head to my chin... helped me keep my mouth closed

I realize "one night does not a trend make"

but two nights!

night before last when I pretended there was amonia gas in the bedroom and I could NOT open my mouth to breath or I would DIE,
(but it was okay to cough) yeah, go figure the logic in that..

However, I had my lowest ever AHI reading! 1.1 OMG!

this morning, after I told myself last night I was sleeping in another noxious cloud...

drum roll please.... my ahi this am was 0.4 OMG!

both nights I had dreams, both nights my mouth was moist all thru the night, and in the morning upon waking..

and I was able to do a lot of side sleeping AND keeping my trap shut!

two nights? hope that is a trend! The subconscious is a powerful thing!

mmmm, what gas tonight? methane?

I sure wish that would work for me.

You have a very active imagination. I'm glad this works for you.

Remember the NCIS episode where Tony inhaled y.pestis - plague?
Tonight, think about that before going to sleep - somebody has blown a specially bio-engineered strain of plague into your room. If you inhale it, you'll die!

(by the way, the earlier message about bandana tube? I read that as "banana" tube and couldn't figure out how (and why) somebody would put a banana on their head!
