Nasal Pillow Irritation

Post by SlidellSand » Mon May 24, 2010 10:23 am

I used a comfortlite 2 mask with nasal pillows for about 4 years, but I recently switched to the opus 360 because the headgear is much smaller. (I got tired of waking up with smushed hair every morning with the comfortlite.) I really like the fit, etc., of the Opus ; but after a few days, I developed redness/irritation on the inside of my nostrils, toward the center only, on both nostrils. The fit seems to be fine, no leaking. It's definitely not too tight.

Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas/suggestions?

I'm having that problem right now, too, and I think it's my fault. I've been doing so well that I stopped doing the nasal rinses, and I think this is why. I actually had a sore and a little scab on the septum inside my nose in one nostril and it was a tiny bit swollen as well.

I'm back to doing my nasal rinses, and using a bit of lanolin cream to sooth the soreness.

I also use the Opus 360 mask on occasion. Although I haven't had that problem, you may find that putting some Ayr saline nasal gel inside your nostrils will help. I use that inside and also apply a tiny dab of Lansinoh lanolin on the outside edges, which helps to keep the nasal pillows in place.

That design has asymmetric tip shape on the pillows.

There are two versions of the assembly, something to do with resting on the lip or not (the latter would stabilize the assembly).

Minimalist designs tend to tip, you might look at the angle of the pillows to your nose, many designs do not properly adapt to the angle of the bottom of your nose.
