LT Activa vs. Old style Activa?

Post by mrammell » Sat May 22, 2010 9:30 pm

What is the difference between the two and do you like the LT better? and will a new LT cushion fit on my old style activa frame? Thanks

The LT has a "screw type" forehead adjustment. The old Activa uses a "ratchet type."
The LT exhaust vents upward. The old Activa exhaust vents downward.
The LT straps unlatch in the center. The old Activa unlatches on the sides.

Both use the same cushion and attachment piece.

Some people like the screw type forehead adjustment better because you can maker finer adjustments.

My wife likes my LT better because the exhaust air does not blow down her back.

I use both and quickly adjust to which ever one I have on at the moment.

That's about it.

For me, the major improvement is that the LT has the hose swivel located on the mask frame instead of at the end of an auxiliary tube. However, this arrangement can affect leaking, unless you use a cuffless hose. The traditional hose with the heavy end cuff tends to skew the mask frame and increase the likelihood for leaks. The LT cushion is a little smaller and some users feel less intimidated by it. The size seems to reduce the affect that the end cuffs have on the leaking problem.

An added featutre is that the Mirage SoftGel cushion fits both Activa mask frames

To add a few items to the above list:

- The LT is more susceptible to rain out to the point that it starts to whistle with even a minor amount of moisture.
- For me, the LT appears not to seal as well as the original activa. However, both provide a very good seal and my leak numbers are identical.
- The original activa has a short length of hose attached to it. This short hose makes it possible to route the hose over your head (attached to the headgear on top of your head). You cannot do this with the LT. Downside of the Activa that results from this short hose are: the mask is bulkier for travel, it takes slightly longer to clean; the short hose cannot be heated and becomes a condensation point for rainout; a separate hose cover for the short section of hose is necessary.

Overall, my preference is the original Activa mask. However, both work well. For me the LT MUST be used with a hose cover and a heated hose.
I'm workin' on it.

The LT hands down. It is more difficult to blow air on your eyes, I can sleep with it under the blankets and since it is smaller, it does not stick out as much and I can sleep on my side more.
