FF masks...

Post by cybergoon » Mon Oct 24, 2005 8:36 am

I am currently using the FlexiFit 431 FF mask. I really like how it cups under the chin, rather than pressing down on the front of my chin. When I had my titration done, the mask they used did that and it was very uncomfortable.

Anyone know of other FF masks that cup under the chin? I have read the manufacturers pitches on many, but none of them mention it. Let me know. I just need to get into a mask that likes me and doesn't hurt my nose.

Or, if there are some suggestions to help with how to modify my current mask, that would be great also.

I am new to the Full Face type of mask as having only been on it for about ten days now. It is the sixth mask of my collection and so far may very well be the best one that I have tried.

It is a Respironics ComfortFull Face Mask and it hits me just below the mouth and doesn't feel tight at all. It works for me.

I would like to try other Full Face types to see if they are better, but I don't know how they could be more comfortable. As far as I know, this is the cheapest of the full face type, but my DME gave it to me, so it is a good place to start using one.

Good Luck with your hunt

The Hans Rudolph cups under the chin.
I find it very comfortable.

I had been thinking about trying one of the ComfortFull masks, but was hesitant because I tried the ComfortGel and it was horrible. Kinda makes me weary. I met a guy while tailgating this weekend who sells cpap equipment and told me to give him a call and he will set me up with what I need.

As for the Hans Rudolph, Apria said that my insurance won't pay for it for some reason. Could be because it is so new. I wish their information was more detailed about it on their site. It doesn't really explain much at all. Plus, it is quite expensive compared to most of the other FF masks.

Chances are, my next mask will have to be out of pocket. I called my insurance company and they said that they only will buy a new mask if my current one is broken! How do they expect compliance if they won't give people a chance to find a mask that works for them??

My first Hans Rudolph was paid for out of pocket $160.00 this is mask and head gear. My second Hans Rudolph was paid for by Humana.
You need to request all information to be sent to you and then you have to fight the insurance company. I was lucky my insurance company didn't fight me on this.

The problem is, most DME's don't want to handle this mask, because this mask does not have the name ofour machines on it.
This is a European mask.

I am thinking very seriously of getting the Sensa seal for my small.
This company also has the Nasal Mask as well as the Full Face
mask.
I am going to have to find out how to go about getting the Sensa seal.

I'm in the process or ordering the Hans Rudolph full face mask. I'm waiting for the sizing calipers to arrive, so I know what size to order. Congestion is making the use of my Activa difficult.

I'll submit the bill to my insurance, but I don't care if they pay for it or not, this treatment is too important to let a few bucks get in the way. I'll just have to cut back somewhere else.

I use Ultra Mirage Full Face mask by Resmed and I love it. I never have problems with the seal and can sleep all night with it.

Joey you are one of the lucky ones because there are some that had a lot of trouble with this mask.
Including me. I had blisters, head gear losened and it made obscenen noises, head gear to tight obscenen noises.

I even made padded protectors and some of the others tried this and used other things to help stop making the noises and trying to make the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask more comfortable.

I through that maks, my husband hated the noise it made. He even let me try one of his masks as a full face mask because of the problems I was having.

This is not a so called GREAT MASK. Sorry I know if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.

Today, I called the sleep lab that I used for my titration. They said tha tthe Ultra Mirage FF Medium is what I used during my titration. I didn't like it because it pushed pretty hard against my chin. I don't know if it was just because it was new to me or if it was improperly fitted on me. I seem to remember feeling like I had to keep my jaw pushed forward in order to keep the seal.

I would guess that it was improperly fitted.....too tight.

I love mine, too.

Good luck.

Any thoughts on the forehead support? Seems like it could break easily. Ever happen to anyone with normal use? That's the main thing I am afraid of with either the ComfortFull or the Ultra Mirage.

Also, on the ComfortFull, is the cushion/seal replaceable? I didn't find replacements on cpap.com. Trying to find something that is half-way cost effective to maintain.

Thanks,
-Marc

Marc,

I've had mine for 6 months and it's holding up just fine.

I would suggest you call CPAP.COM and ask them about the parts.
It's an 800 number so the least you can do is ask and it won't cost anything.

Best wishes,

Den

I have the ultra mirage small standard and hate it. I have tried and tried to get it to fit right and stop leaking when the pressure goes above 10 but just haven't had any luck unless I strap it on so tight that it really hurts on my neck. I tried leaving the straps loose but it always leaked like a sieve. The forehead device is pretty strudy though. It usually takes me about an hour or so to go to sleep with it on and then I'll only sleep about 45 minutes or so before I wake up with a loud leak or it just hurts so bad. I also get really bad nasal congestion with it. I use the Breeze Nasal Pillows and tape my mouth shut and it works just fine. I also reposition the straps on the Breeze like Rested Gal has suggested. The Breeze also blows out any nasal congestion I might have. Hope you have better luck with the Ultra Mirage than I have had!!!!!

I also have the Ultra Mirage FF small standard and it works ok for me. But, my pressures are all set and stay pretty low (Max=11). I thinks there have been several posts from people having trouble when pressure goes above 10, and I do recall waking once when I had max set for 12 and got a runaway up to that and it was leaking big time.

Anyone ever try some sort of lube around the seal on a FF?
