travel trouble--missing part?

Post by n0trab » Wed Oct 26, 2005 11:19 pm

I brought my PB 420E to Washington today on an overnight business trip--without the humidifier. I figured I could get by without it and wanted to travel light. now I see that the 6 foot hose to my mask, which normally connects to the humidifier, doesn't fit the 420 directly. (Why o why not make the connectors standard?) Is there something I can order fast? my overnight trip just became 4 nights, and I'm sleeping barefaced tonight....

If you are using the hose that came with your 420 machine, your hose should fit directly onto the port of the 420. There is a silicone coupler (looks like a donut) that allows the hard plastic humidifier tank mate with the 420. I suspect that this silicone coupler stayed attached to your 420 when you pulled the humidifier tank away from the machine. So, examine the air exit port on the 420 and gently pull off the silicone coupler; your hose should now fit directly onto the 420 exit port.
This coupler is the thing that lets the humidifier tank fit correctly onto the 420. Don't throw it out; you will need it when you get home. Pay attention to the way it comes off as it needs to go back on in the same way -->one side of the coupler is mated to the 420 machine while the other side, which is of a different depth, mates to the humidifier tank.
When I remove my humidifier tank (I have a 420E) the coupler ALWAYS stays attached to the machine.

Bless you, WillSucceed.

You know, in my bleary eyed quest last night, I considered whether it would help to pull out the silicone sleeve. I worked at it with what seemed to be a fair amount of force, and it barely moved. Decided to quit before I turned a one-night problem into a broken machine. Now that I know I'm supposed to remove it, I'll try again tonight.

I can't imagine how anyone faced CPAP before this forum came to be.

I can't imagine how anyone faced CPAP before this forum came to be.

They had to rely on the doctors and local DME suppliers.....A REAL SCARY THOUGHT!

Howdy,

Another option is to order the part(s) you need from cpap.com and have them overnighted. We ship same day on nearly everything, so you could have it prompty.

Just curious Johnny, what part is it that you would have overnighted to him?

I was on CPAP for 5 months before I knew anything about this or any other forum---it was a very lonely place to be!
The folks on this forum have been soooo helpful. I now have found a comfortable mask (for me) that doesn't leak and am awaiting the arrival of an APAP, a heated hose and software. Hoping to get things to smooth out more when they all arrive.

PS I would like to add that my Dr. does care, but it really helps when the patient is knowledgable and knows what to ask for.
