nasal pillow 4 side sleeping???????
can someone please recommend a type or brand of nasal pillow that is good for side sleeping. thanks
Re: nasal pillow 4 side sleeping???????
I use the Liberty mask, but the nasal pillows work well because I also use the Regenesis pillow. I can puff up the pillow exactly as I want it, then clear a spot for nasal pillows to fit without being knocked out of place. Works well for me.

I use Resperonics Opti for that and they fit me perfectly after a short breaking in period. I wear a sleep mask over it and it holds things in place and as a dedicated side sleeper it works great for me. I use the medium pillows for a really good fit.sleepsurfer wrote:can someone please recommend a type or brand of nasal pillow that is good for side sleeping. thanks

I wear the Hybrid Universal, it's got pillows and an oral cushion. It's categorized as a full-face mask. I side sleep propped up on pillows and it works for me.
ResMed S9 range 9.8-17, RespCare Hybrid FFM

As a side sleeper, I have used the Breeze, the ComfortLite 2, and currently the Headrest successfully. I think the bigger issue is the sleeping pillow you choose. For me, a pillow I can't sink into is best for not dislodging the nasal pillows.

I have tried the Optilife and after a couple of months of trying to break it in, my nostrils lost that battle...
For me, I found the Resmed Swift FX to be the best, and least intrusive, nasal pillow mask for side sleeping.

Re: nasal pillow 4 side sleeping???????
I tried the optilife nasal pillow mask but I did not like the plastic on my face. I have used the CL2 & Swift LT both work very well for side sleeping position. Since trying the Swift Lt I prefer it because the head gear is much lighter.
Re: nasal pillow 4 side sleeping???????
Sleepsurfer, both the AEIOMed Headrest and Fisher & Paykel Opus 360 nasal pillows have worked well for me when side sleeping.
Re: nasal pillow 4 side sleeping???????
I move around a lot in my sleep, but seem to go to sleep and wake-up on my right side. My first mask was a Swift LT. It made my gums sore, but I don't think I had much of a leak problem with it. Unfortunately, I did not have a data capable machine when I had that mask.Dog Tired wrote:I have tried the Optilife and after a couple of months of trying to break it in, my nostrils lost that battle...

I have been using a Swift FX for almost a month. The pillows seem to seal best when the straps are loose. But when I roll over in my sleep the loose straps twist the pillows out of my nares. So my AHI and Leak rates are all over the place. Tonight I jury rigged a front head strap. I might also try to fashion a cap over the straps. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
In the meantime, I purchased another Swift LT. It might be the best solution for me if I can find a way to make it not hurt my gums.

Re: nasal pillow 4 side sleeping???????
I guess this thread shows how different we all are. Someone mentioned not being able to use nasals pillows in combination with a pillow they sink into. I on the other hand kept having leak problems because I tend to tilt my face down toward the pillow and once I pulled an old memory foam pillow out the closet the problem was solved. Two night on the memory foam with a Swift FX and my leak rate was 0.0 both nights.
The headrest mask looks like it would be a good one for side sleeping but I haven't tried it yet. I was thinking about it until the memory foam pillow seemed to solve my problem. Hopefully it stays that way.

Swift FX here also, I used to use a swift II.
I agree with oscar98 that a memory foam pillow helps as you don't sink too deep into your pillow which cause the mask to shift.

Re: nasal pillow 4 side sleeping???????
I have been using my Swift FX for about a month and feel like it works well for me some nights and not so much on others. Last night was my 20th night on my S9. The first week it was set to a minimum pressure of 5 and a maximum pressure of 11. The last two weeks it has been set to 6 and 12. The statistics indicate my median pressure is 8.2, my 95th percentile is 10.7 and my maximum pressure is 11.8. I'm not sure if I should lower it, raise it, or put it back on straight CPAP.
My median leak is 1.2, 95th percentile leak is 18.8 and maximum leak is 32.4. My apnea index is 4.5 with an AHI of 4.7, obstructive 2.6 and central 1.6. My Hyponea index is 0.2. But these numbers jump wildly from night to night. My API has been as low as 1.0 and as high as 9.6 (last night). Those occasional low numbers give me hope that the FX mask can be made to work for me.
Last night I took the chin strap off my Full Life mask and used it as a forehead strap for my FX. I went to sleep at 11:45 pm and woke at 4:20 am. I checked the screen and it indicated an AHI of 2.8.
I messed with the straps a little, then laid in bed for almost an hour thinking about getting-up. I put the mask back on at 5:15 am and got up at 8 am to discover the screen showed an API of 9.6. When I read the card, the detail graph on the software showed 57 apneas between 5:19 and 6 am. I guess I should not have messed with the straps.

Re: nasal pillow 4 side sleeping???????
I have the Swift LT for her which is very comfortable for side sleeping. I still move the bed pillow so the bulky portion is hanging off the edge a bit--that way it doesn't dislodge the nasal pillows in my nose.
The other adaptation I've made is to line the back strap with the hook side of velcro tape facing my head so that the strap doesn't slide around when I move my head against the bed pillow. It sounds uncomfortable to have that stiff tape against your head, but it's not at all.
