I have been on the CPAP for about 6 weeks. The first month was rough but I survived almost 100% compliance. Now it seems I finally adjusted to the CPAP and OptiLife Mask. Feeling fairly good but still waking early. I recently notice my AHI moving upward from 3.7 to now at 7.5. With knowledge obtained within this site I entered the setup of my machine. It is set at CPAP with a setting of 18. As best as I can tell my PAPcap has helped me stop the exit of air from my mouth so am not sure why the AHI number is rising. My sleep sudy indicated 38 events/hour (I think).
My question is why the Doctor ordered straight CPAP in lieu of APAP would and do you think APAP would do a better job at preventing the apnea?
CPAP v APAP
Re: CPAP v APAP
Good questions...for your doctor. He's in a better position to tell you why he chose CPAP over APAP, and what may be causing the AHI to rise.
I CAN tell you that some doctors prefer CPAP because APAP allows events just by the way it works. CPAP at the optimal pressure will usually produce a lower AHI than an APAP.
But no one can read your doc's mind...

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...
