New, better than CPAP treatment?

Post by speaker626 » Sat May 15, 2010 5:14 am

I posted this (third paragraph) a while back and just learned it is not really my idea. I am including link to what I think is one of many soon to arrive concepts that will obsolete these units. I was also wrong in guessing it would be Medtronic though who knows.

Here is link to stimulation style concept: http://www.technologyreview.com/biomedicine/24152/?a=f Company is called IM Thera (imtheramedical.com).Trials for US due to start in 2010. Site has a good deal of interesting apnea info.

My original post a couple weeks ago was "These machines do great things but the current method of air shunt delivery is horrid. As with all things, someone will come up with a better alternative to the current glorified aquarium pump connected to a hose connected to something that looks like something used in an ICU. And, when it happens, everyone will say "that's so simple, why didn't I think of it?" Well, maybe not. My guess is a mini auto titrating pump implant with a totally internal catheter system that tosses the air in as needed and may be combined and then replaced with a drug that specifically targets tissue that needs to stay open. Laugh all you want- then go, for example, to Medtronics neurosurgical web site and read about products they already have/use for other conditions. It is stunning. By comparison, my idea is a walk in the park."
