ResScan10 - where is the data?
ResScan10 - where is the data?
Hi all,
can someone pls help me locate where the RescScan program saves its data? I am using Win7 (Ultimate).
I have a S8 and download its data either with cable cum adapter, or with card cum reader - works all very nice. But the data is stored somewhere on my computer, and I don't know where exactly.
I will be travelling soon for some time and would like the data with me, to use it with the prog installed on the laptop. Couldn't find in the program an option to export the data, except as a pdf-report, which is not what I'm looking for.
Also - how many days of data are stored in the machine or on the card when it is loaded? Maybe I could just download the data from the card? But that way I would probably lose the detailed data, which I had made quite some effort to collect every 3 days.
So thanks in advance for some hints, cheers

Re: ResScan10 - where is the data?
I'm not sure how the S8 stores its data, but to answer your other question, in ResScan 3.10 there is a data export facility - on the Menu: File/Export that allows you to export summary data. You can find the instructions for it in ResScan's own Help menu. I've never used the export facility but it looks like it would accomplish what you are trying to achieve.

Hi ronflon,
I'm not sure if the folder location would be the same in Win7, but on my older Windows machine, the file that holds patient data is located in C:\Program Files\ResMed\ResScan3\Patients.

Re: ResScan10 - where is the data?
On my Win7 installation (64 bit, Professional), the patient database file (patient.db) is in the directory C:\ProgramData\ResMed\ResScan. I would think it's safer to use the export facility than to try copying this file from one machine to another, depending on what you are trying to achieve.DreamOn wrote:Hi ronflon,

Re: ResScan10 - where is the data?
Hey guys,
thanks for your answers! (just wondering why I never get answer notifications, grumble ...)
Actually, I had forgotten to mention that I had tried the export functions, but didn't get a useful result. It writes a 1 kb csv-file with exactly 2 header-rows and nothing else. So what I meant to say was that I couldn't find a *working* export function.
Luckily, in the installation folder, I just found an installation log that told me that patient data would be saved to C:\Users\Public\Documents\ResMed\ResScan3\Patients\ (makes much sense to save it under public documents indeed ...). And there, I found plenty of files with an .rlk-extension which I reckon must be the detailed data. There also is a Summary.dat, Notes.db and PatientDetails.db. I suppose I have struck gold, there ...
Now I just need to figure out where this will have to go under XP (which is running on the laptop). Any suggestions?
Otherwise I reckon I'll just go by trial and error.
Thanks again for your input!

When you're composing a post on the forum, there's a box below that you can check: "Notify me when a reply is posted". If you don't check that box each time, you won't be notified of any replies to that thread. Also, you may want to double-check that your email address is correct under User Control Panel (upper left of screen), Profile, Edit Account Settings.ronflon wrote:thanks for your answers! Re: ResScan10 - where is the data?
DreamOn, thanks a lot - yes, the path is the correct one. Copied all files from my Win7 directory to the one you specified under XP, and all data became available Even though I have made the install to a different language.
(BTW, the largest chunk of this 3.10 install file consists of examples, some 120 MB of 'em, the actual program files take only around 40 MB ... did anybody ever have a look at these sample files???)
So now I can travel with no worries - thanks again to all who helped!

Yes, those example files are interesting. In my version of ResScan (3.7), you can see the examples. When you Open Patient File, there's a drop-down there with two choices: Default or Examples. Select "Examples" and then you can choose which one to view. Our S8 machines aren't capable of reporting flow, snores, oximeter data, etc., as they are but it's interesting to see that data in some of the examples.

Re: ResScan10 - where is the data?
Select the Tools menu and from that menu select Patient Management.ronflon wrote:can someone pls help me locate where the RescScan program saves its data? I am using Win7 (Ultimate).
From the dialog that then displays, if you click on your own patient file entry (probably the only entry there), you should be able to see where it currently is in the Windows directory structure.
Once you know the file location just copy the entire directory concerned across to the same directory location your laptop just before you travel.ronflon wrote:I will be travelling soon for some time and would like the data with me, to use it with the prog installed on the laptop. Rename the directory you copied from to something else (I just add "old" to the end of the directory name).
You can then keep using ResScan as normal on the laptop.
When you return home copy the patient file directory off the laptop back to its original location on your desktop system.
Once the copy is complete and you have tested that it works, you can delete renamed directory ("old") you created just before leaving.
I've been doing this for the past couple of years when travelling and it works well.
Cheers,
Bill

Re: ResScan10 - where is the data?
Thanks Bill, it's useful to know that method works in practice.

Re: ResScan10 - where is the data?
Bill, that's the way I thought doing it, so thanks for confirming it actually works.
Can I deduct from your statement that you, too, didn't succeed to use the inbuilt export-function?
Have good day all!

I've used the export function successfully for its intended purpose......ronflon wrote:Can I deduct from your statement that you, too, didn't succeed to use the inbuilt export-function?
Cheers,The ResScan help file wrote:You can export ResScan summary data from patient file to comma separated value (CSV) files for use with other programs
