So happy to have found you...

Post by Rawbear » Sun May 09, 2010 9:37 pm

SOOOOOO happy to have found you, my instant friends!

Who could understand falling asleep in traffic, any time of the day... Who could understand the false diagnostic of ADD, when you're just too tired to remember to concentrate... Who could explain why I woke up sweating and soaked, or out of breath, with a heartbeat of 160 (and not from a nightmare!)...

Even my psychoanalyst couldn't paste it all together: who would retire from a very successful career at 47, burnt.

One day, my mom (78) came to help me do "garden chores". I just couldn't keep up and needed a nap in the afternoon.

A few weeks ago I woke up just in time, facing incoming traffic. It was 11h00 AM...

A few years ago I fell asleep during a video conference (with a bunch of people overseas). I was the project manager. I was sitting in the first row. My friend woke me up, after everybody started to chuckle on the other side...

I was in charge of recruiting for a large company. I fell asleep while interviewing a candidate...

High blood pressure, Effexor, allergies...

I waited 14 months for the first test (I live in Quebec, Canada. Our med systems sucks...), a night with a little machine at home. My pnumologist didn't even wait for the full test of a "night at the hospital"... I've had my machine for 3 days. AHI under 3. Today, I felt rested. It's 23h30 (11h30 PM for you, non-metric people) and I'm typing this, still full of energy.

I actually might have a tough time falling asleep tonight. For the first time in 25 years...

It has been 12 years. Reading your story was deja vue for me.
Fell asleep at work, at the dinner table, at the wheel (yikes!) driving right through an intersection while asleep and one time when I pulled over at a highway rest stop .
That time I woke up 4 hours later with the motor still running. I conked out so fast I didnt even turn off the engine.
CPAP has probably saved my life.

Well, it's been two weeks. Here's what I found so far:
- If I don't get enough sleep, I am still tired. I think I need about 8 hours a night. 7 is not enough.
- Some nights are better than others, meaning that some days I'm still tired and sleepy. There must be other causes for a bad sleep. At least, I will be able to find some of them by elimination.
- I do have more energy, in general. My active period is getting longer...
- My blood pressure has gone down, especially the diastolic measurement. I have been taking meds for that for years, but it was slowly creeping back up, with my doctor concerned that I might end up needing more powerful meds. Hopefully, that will not be an issue anymore.
- I DON"T SNORE! (says my wife and the software)
- I DON'T HAVE TO PEE AT NIGHT! That took a few nights.
- Technically, my AHI is now below 1.0, unless I drink too much (one bottle of wine will do it). Then AHI hovers from 1.0 to 2.0

I still haven't been titrated. We DO have a slow med system in Quebec, Canada. My appointment should be in 6 weeks.

Ciao for now.
