rectiting vowels helps apnea

Post by newname » Sat May 08, 2010 5:04 pm

I just read in a magazine that repeating a vowel for 3 minutes a day strengthens the upper palate and reduces apnea by 39%
If I remember to do this every day (probably will forget)I'll let you know if it works. If anyone has a better memory than me, maybe that person can try it and let us know what happens.

hey, this is cheap and easy solution. How come nobody has told me until today?

What is the magazine name? Lancet or The National Enquirer?

Try First for Women or one of the other women's magazines. This was suggested by a physician so don't knock it unless you try it for 3 minutes a day. You've got nothing to lose except maybe some of your apnea.

Sounds and feels like it would do just what it suggests it will do. It certainly cannot hurt!

I'm going to give it a try. I will not be giving up my cpap though!

Here is the full article: http://mhtoday.menshealth.com/2009/06/t ... apnea.html.

Men's Health magazine titled it "Ending Apnea".

I think CPAP will continue to be my partner.

Besides, I like to buy my vowels. The delivery lady is so nice.

I've had Sleep Apnea so long I can't remember what my vowels are. I can't drink and drive, because I can't say my ABC's backwards, I can't even sing the song backwards. Jim

I sure hope that saying the alphabet backwards isn't a marker of sobriety, cause they'll haul me in!

Repeating vowels, singing, playing certain instruments... I figure any attempt to improve the conditioning of our throat/mouth won't be a waste. After all, laxity is a part of the problem. The study doesn't claim to be a cure, but to reduce severity of sleep apnea. That claim doesn't sound farfetched to me.

Hi All

Exercises for my throat were recommended by my speech therapist who was investigating my laryngospasms. At the time she came up with Paradoxical Vocal Fold Movement.

Now we know that I have chronic laryngospasm caused by acid reflux.

But vocal exercises to strengthen the throat muscles are legitimate therapy. However, a search I did about a year ago revealed no connection to alleviating OSA symptoms.

cheers

For a fact, I am sure this reciting works!

Recite all night long and your AHI will be 0, but make sure you play didgeridoo all day.
Do this for 10 to 15 days in a row and you will be cured permanently.

Gert-Jan

(sorry for my cynisism, had a bad night)
