recommended type of water
What is the recommended water to use? Tap water or distilled water or__________? Thanks
Re: recommended type of water
Distilled...
Re: recommended type of water
Distilled water contains no chemicals so it does not leave deposits of calcium in your chamber which are very hard to clean. Other than that tap water is fine. The vapor does not transmit any chemicals to the hose but it does make a mess of the chamber after a while. Distilled is the best option.

Shaken...not stirred.
The water distillation cartel wants your buck-and-a-half per month so badly they will tell you horror stories of CPAPers who died from using tap water. Just say NO to H2O!!

One could scoop water out of the aquarium for use in the xPAP machine however the "ewwww" factorArnica Bay wrote:What is the recommended water to use? Tap water or distilled water or__________? Thanks
would be a turn off.
Better to use distilled water as it will keep your tank clean.

Re: recommended type of water
In the 5 years I have been a user, have tried tap & bottled distilled, then 2 years ago I bought a home distiller & it has been a godsend.
No more scum (calcium etc: deposits) to clean. The tank remains clean but every month or so I open it up & rinse it with mouthwash (Listerine).
Distilled water is tops (properly distilled, not just 'filtered' which often leaves impurities).
The machine in the middle at the top is the one I have I think I paid about $A 150 for it. These are available all over the US.

PS I checked via the link I provided & the US price for the unit I have is $US 135 - plastic exterior & S/S interior mine has held up well - for $155 you can get the same but with S/S exterior.

There have been many discussions about water in the forum. I suppose some lose patience with seeing the new threadsArnica Bay wrote:Thanks to you who were so kind to reply with a helpful answer and nuts to the one smart ____ answer.
from time to time from the newbies.

Distilled water by far because it does not have the minerals in it that will harm your machine. It is pretty low in cost around here. I buy a gallon of it and it seems to last me a month.
i would imagine the cost is variable depending on where you live and the availability of it. I dont want to do anything that could be detrimental to my machine so nothing goes in it but distilled.

Distilled water-88cents at your Walmart store- at least around central Illinois.
Re: recommended type of water
I looked into it. I can conveniently buy a gallon for 80 cents at my local grocery store which typically lasts me around 2 weeks, that machine would have to function for over 10 years before i broke even on my costs. That's not even including the costs of electricity and the fact that it generates heat while i have a/c on trying to cool down my home.dsm wrote:

Plus you probably have to clean the machine
Re: recommended type of water
I use RO(Reverse Osmosis) water. It is essentially the same as distilled as all the minerals have been removed. I am currently on well water and there is no way I will ever put that water in my humidifier. I purchased a RO unit to filter water for drinking water and it has worked great.
