Full face mask recomendations

Post by Tanna » Wed May 05, 2010 5:39 pm

I have gotten a Script for a full face mask, what do you folks think would be the best one to try for a female. One of the things I don't like about the nasal mask I currently have is the pressure it puts on my upper lip under my nose, it drives me crazy. I have researched the Quarttro and the Mirage ultra and different folks like them for different reasons. I will be going to Apria they have a 30 say exchange program so I'm not sure if those will be my only two choices. I would be grateful for any replies. Thanks.

See if they'll order the mask I wear the RespCare Hybrid Universal, comes with 3 sizes of oral cushion and 3 sizes of pillows that can be adjusted to sit at 2 heights...very comfortable FFM.
ResMed S9 range 9.8-17, RespCare Hybrid FFM
Never, never, never, never say never.

I like the Quattro a lot. It helps to use the fitting template from the ResMed website, even if the DME has different sizes for you to try. It helps clarify how the mask is designed to fit. The lower edge hits in the dimple between the lip and the chin, below the roots of the lower teeth, which is a nice, comfortable place.

Tanna, masks are a very individual item... what works well for some may not work quite so
well for others, therefore it is difficult to make recommendations in that area.

The bottom line is that you need to insist your DME work with you until you have a mask that
you are comfortable with and that works in concert with your other equipment to provide the
best therapy you can get. 30 days is not very long given it sometimes takes 2 - 3 weeks to
adjust to a mask and figure out how to make it work for you. A fitting at the DME place
may indicate the mask is going to work but the real test is with you at home overnight.

I don't have a full though i wonder if i should have one. Time will tell. But i have done a lot of researching on the cpap.com site by reading what the top sellers are and then reading all of the reviews for each mask. You get a feel for what the masks strong and or weak points are. It seems like the quattro has quite a few more adjustment options and the mirage ultra seemed to be second in the amount of people that were buying them and commenting on the masks. I was leaning towards the quattro if i do go that way because of the adjustment factors. But each mask is highly individualized depending on your face structure so in the end you have to make a choice and hope for the best. I would go to cpap.com and research the ones you are interested in and read the reviews.
