Thought I broke my mask last night

Post by base2balls » Tue May 04, 2010 8:06 am

I sure was so lucky that it didn't break. I moved a certain way in my sleep and next thing I heard was a loud snap! It woke me up big time and I turned on the light and found the elbow to my mask still attached to the hose and my mask was on my face. I took it off and holding the elbow in one hand and the mask in the other hand I was starting to wrry that I would have to buy another mask. They are a bit exspensive so any how I put the elbow where it was on the mask and it snapped right back in place and I was so happy that is didn't get broken. I did not know that piece snaps back on. The mask would have cost me about $131.00 or more to replace, but not known how much out of pocket I would have had to pay. Thank God it isn't broken. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

I never had a problem with the kind of mask where the hose connects directly to the elbow. The "quick release" type I would disconnect all the time. Just like you describe, "Snap!" (rush of wind) followed by an "oh hell".

Glad you were able to get it back together.

Scary, ain't it?

I've pulled my Hybrid QD fitting apart in the night a time or two. It's just a hard plastic tapered tube that stays connected to the hose and press-fits into the mask elbow. But you sure know it when it pops out!

I currently have a cast on my lower leg and I've found a blast of cool air down inside the cast quells any itching. So I've pulled it out and stuck it in the top of the cast few times recently. Unfortunately, it usually wakes my bride up...and really screws with my leak rate!

It does have a quick release thing on my mask, but that is connected to the elbow. Thank God I was able to snap it back in place. I went back to bed and just now got up. Man we had a lot of excitement when I got up. Landlord was knocking at the door and I answered it and she told me she needed to look around inside. The upstairs laundry room flooded and she was sure I had water damage in here. So far nothing. She came in to look in the bathroom and knocked my hanging boat off the wall and lost the nail to it so I have to find it and hanfg it back up. I have knic knacs on it. Whoa. I think I've had enough for one day! Have a great day, Uggies, Fay

Yeah, we need backups for everything with this gear.

So far I have accumulated 2 masks, 2 hoses, 3 headgear, 2 spare face cushioins
and a spare humidifier tank.

I just need a backup machine now, that I will pickup once in Texas.

Since going on the hose I have not missed one night and I would
hate to revert back to the pre-hose feeling!

I own probably 6 or 7 masks ...most of them out of pocket. I don't care I am worth it, and it good for my health to have backups to my backups...

I pulled the quick disconnect onmy mask a week or so ago and heard a snap and the elbow was in my hand. I had a near stroke

It snapped right back in worked fine. i thought i was going to have to get a cigar box and bury it in the back yard.

awww pdean that's so sweet!

Continuing in the spirit of the other backup posts:
So i have multiple hoses (3? 4?), two complete activa masks plus some spare cushions, several failed FFMS, one complete 420E + HH plus another complete 420E backup + HH, working on getting a spare power adapter since I only have 1 ( my weakest link! ), several hose covers, several padacheek forehead pads, only 1 papcap, 3-4 spare tape boxes and 3 chapsticks and 3 containers make-up remover for mouth taping, and leftovers from previous experiments (denture strips, silicon plugs). i also backup my silverlining data onto a CD periodically along with all my other personal files and photos.
Yeah, I'm paranoid!!

No I have the ResMed Mirage Micro Nasal mask and yeah that was a scare. Took a nap with my pap today, but I had no intention of sleeping, but then maybe I needed it. I was so cold as it is cold over here and I laid down under the electric blanket to get warm and I put on the pap and snuggled down and got nice and comfy and went to sleep. It was snowing about 50 miles from ehrer and that is a first for the month of MAy. It has been really stormy and cold so it feels like we are getting November weather. I might have to get doubles of every thing pretty much so I'd have it if some thing should happen. I just ordered the nose bridge protector a/b from Padacheek and a soft cap from an ebay seller and got a great price on that. I probably should get a 2nd hose and mask. So far I'm fine with every thing else. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

It sounds like the same plastic elbow as on the quattro ... I tend to knock it out once every monthor two - usually when I have a pillow over my face and it knocks the hose (which I route over my head and down the back of the bed).

That's one of the nice things about xPAP - you can "disappear" totally under the blankets and still get all the fresh air you need
