Going to get fitted for a new mask

Post by edunhamfly » Tue Apr 27, 2010 8:04 am

I had the bad night sleep night before last, so last night I took my old sleep medicine, Lunesta, and slept very well. Actually got up at 5:30 a.m., at the gym at 6:00 a.m. I make myself go when I get a half way decent night sleep. I am going tomorrow to get fitted for a new mask since I seem to open my mouth sometimes when I sleep. Very weird feeling when that happens, woke both me and my husband up. Blubbering out of my mouth, what next??

My question is, the DME didn't tell me to bring my machine in for the fitting? Based on what I have read here I would think I should take it. It has been 3 weeks since I started my therapy, I would think they would also want to look at my stats off my machine.

I am planning on just putting the machine in the car just in case. I currently have nose pillows, and am hoping to try the Hybrid ??, which has the nose pillows and also covers your mouth, any better suggestions??

Have a great day! Thanks for putting up with us newbies who really have no idea what we are talking about. It is very comforting knowing we are not alone in this journey for a good night sleep.

Hi. It would be best to use your machine for mask fitting/testing. He/She will need the SD card in the back of your machine to read your data. Just call him/her beforehand to clarify your expactations. Also make sure that you will be able to lie down there with any masks you try. That's a critical part of the fitting process. They should definitely be fitted with the/a machine running. The very best of luck. My DME makes house calls!

If they don't have the Hybrid in stock, (or won't order it) the Resmed Liberty also has pillows and a mouth piece.

And Resmed makes 2 full face masks--that people either love or hate: The Resmed Quattro and Ultra Mirage. Proper size and fitting is essential for either. You should lie down, with cpap on, to really test the fit.

Katie - thanks so much for the info. They did not have the Hybrid in stock by they did have the ResMed Liberty. Can't wait to try it out tonight. I feel like I am making such progress getting quality sleep. Yippee, I know there will still be good days and bad, but at least I am getting good days!!! Hopefully they will be more frequent. My DME is wonderful, no hassels at all in getting the new mask.

Great, let us know how you like the Liberty. My friend went from the Quattro to the Liberty, and loves it. Some people like the Hybrid better. Just depends on how it fits you.
