Post by chaser3968 » Sat Oct 22, 2005 8:13 am

hi everyone. i have a problem. i have the activa mask from resmed and i can not get a seal on it. i keep waking up at night leaking air from one spot or another. i have tried all the adjustments at different points and i dont know what to do. should i try another mask. i thought this was the best for first time users. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

The person who fitted me said that the key is to have the head piece tighter and let the mask "free float" on your nose to make sure it keeps it from moving side to side. When you turn it on, it should seal to your nose. There is another post where someone explained this much better - I'm new to all of this.

Also - make sure you wash your face with a gentle soap prior to use. I use Cetephil. I have a very oily nose and forgot last night and had problems with my mask shifting more that it should have.

Chaser,

Are you using a shallow cushion or one of the others (regular or large) with your Activa? They had me use a regular for my titration, but it was really too big & it leaked alot. When I got my equipment, I got one with the shallow cushion. Much better!

And, as Sleepyred says, make sure you wash your face before you go to bed. AND, if you don't clean your mask everyday, use a wash rag with very warm water to wipe off the cushion of your mask.
