BiPAPauto SV-Generic (homemade) data interface card anybody?

Post by ecocyber » Mon Apr 05, 2010 3:54 pm

Hi my fellow Respironics BiPAPauto SV and BiPAPauto SV Advanced users. Have any of you made yourself a homemade data interface to connect these devices to a PC? I am afraid to even ask what the Respironics part costs because I know it will be cost prohibitive for me.

I wondered if any of you were handy enough to have made your own? If so, I wanted to ask you what you would charge to make me one. If you prefer to not post it here, please send me a PM.

Thanks,
ecocyber

I said that!

To clarify, I use a modified Infinity 481 nasal prong mask and love it; and I use Encore Pro 2.2 to analyze my sleep statistics.

What good would that do? And, what would you use it for? The data is stored on the smart card.
There's already an XPAP-to-PC cable called the SleepLink cable, but it's primary use is for changing the date and time in the machine and also to run some maintenance utility programs.
In order to use it, you have to remove the smart card and insert the card replacement connector in the XPXP. You'd also have to have a computer running and dedicated to you XPAP while you slept and then of course, you'd need some sophisticated software to stream the data into the computer.......like in a sleep study.

Does that use the same smart card as the M series? If so, the card reader is inexpensive, I bought a Mako Infineer card reader that is identical to the Respironics reader for $25 or $30.

According to his profile, that Bi-PAP Auto SV machine used the Legacy case and uses the same smart card as the M Series.

ecocyber (aka sisyphus), might I ease your burden some? The Respironics BiPAP AutoSV (and Advanced as best I can tell) uses the same Smart Card format as the M Series units. So, here's the "official" reader and software:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... eader.html

The Respironics Part numbers are:
EncoreViewer Software (version 1.0) ..... 1047351
Encore SmartCard USB Port Reader Station ..... 1014352
And here's the Respironics link:

http://www.healthcare.philips.com/main/ ... viewer.wpd

Which notes:
Patients can view and print reports that show therapy settings and patterns of use. EncoreViewer supports only Respironics sleep therapy devices (all CPAP / Auto- CPAP / BiPAP with SmartCard, all M Series systems with SmartCard, and BiPAP autoSV with SmartCard)

Just confirming what Wulfman & the others have said,

Also, if I have read the brochures correctly, the Sleeplink (which is really not at all expensive) does allow real time collection of data.
(Wulfman, is that your understanding ? - I am going from my recollection of the Sleeplink setup card).

See this pdf showing a Bipap Auto SV using a Sleeplink - http://global.respironics.com/UserGuide ... 043629.pdf

But as many others have said, why would anyone want to gather cpap data in real time when we can read each nights data from the
data card using a very inexpensive data card reader.

Cheers & good luck

Right.
In any case, the connected computer would have to have some polysomnography software like "Alice" to collect and interpret the data.

For (considerably) less than a couple of hundred bucks you can have the card reader and software that DOES the interpretation in much easier-to-understand reports.

I built a cable to connect my pc to the communications port in the back of my AutoSV Advanced. It is a RS232 port.
Still testing.
I need the right software. Encore Pro does does not seem to support this direct connection.
But if you want a cheap card reader; get it here

That link doesn't seem to be working anymore, and as I'm a new AutoSV Advanced owner, I'm on the prowl. Any chance you have another link to it or a similar reader for these huge cards? I miss being able to just jam an SD card into my laptop and go! I found this on the same site (http://www.minamielec.com/index.php?dis ... uct_id=173) at $36 but am not 100% sure if that's the same (or the same price) as what you referred to initially.

That is the card reader for the M series and Legacy Smart card using machines.
Mako DT 3500 Infineer. That is a very good price.

Thanks. Just so I'm 100% sure before I order, that would read the credit card looking thingamajig that's in the current Respironics BiPAP AutoSV Advanced machines, right? Seems that way based on what everyone's been saying on here, but I always like the extra nod.

DT3500 works with this smart card.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... -card.html

So yes, the credit card thingamig with gold box on the end.

I don't think that Respironics has upgraded that high dollar machine to SD cards yet.

Encore Pro or Viewer will work but data like CA, waveform, RE won't be shown because it is not collected. I did find that with EP I had to update the DT3500 after a couple of days using EncorePro 2.4. Weird, it worked for a bit then forgot it had the driver software. I had M series machine until just about 3 weeks ago so have used that card reader for long time.

Yes,
The DT-3500 Smart Card Reader is what I've been using for over a year with my BiPAP autoSV Advanced.
http://www.minamielec.com/index.php?dis ... uct_id=173

Works great. All you need is a PC with a USB port and the Encore Pro software.
