It started happening to me after 4.5 years of therapy or so (beloved Headrest and tape) - Neither jaw drop, nor tongue drop, but a valve between my nose and palate snapping open... pressure drop doesn't help much either for me .... I'm at 8.2 I never tried a chin strap, and I've resorted to full face mask....

ewww!
I can only imagine what I must look like to my husband, with a "pepples" pony tail, the nose pillows, and sports tape over my mouth..
Elena, as I said, now that I decreased the pressure I sometimes get a tiny, bubble of air - it's easy to let it out through the corner of my lips.
Yes, we are a sight for sore eyes - I do not allow my husband or anyone in my room when I have my mask on!
I was wondering - isn't there someone that can start a post with pics of how they mouth tape? I am prepared to send a pic, but I do not
want to be the only one! Then all newbies (and oldies) can experiment with the different ways of mouth taping. We can name the subject:

I also have this same problem and still adjusting to it. I use the OptiLife Nasal pillow cushion with high (18) pressure, quite a challenge. Not only did I have the balloon cheeks but would frequently swallow some of the air. Make for an interesting next day.

I added a chin strap and Polident strips. The strips are about 1.50” long so they do not glue the whole mouth shut. It allows a small hole where I can expel the air as it seeps into my mouth. The use of the strip is another issue. What worked best for me is after I am ready to go to bed with mask in place; I wet my lips so they are just damp, place the strip center mouth and press with the lips. The strip will then stick after a few minutes. You don’t want to put too much water or the strips of they will not stick. BTW don’t worry about not able to remove the tape quickly; it sticks enough to seal the lips at sleep but easily removed. It just leave a little goo that is washed aff with a warm washcloth.

I currently use a chin strap to keep the trap shut during rem sleep. I am hoping as I adjust to the systems maybe the chin strap or strips can go, however right now I would stand upside down naked on main street if it meant getting a good night sleep. And the world thanks me so no having to do that thus far.

Most every night the sleep gets easier and as the sleep gets easier the better I feel. Hang in there.
God Bless..

I did about one month ago - pix of me with tape, easylife nasal mask and black swimming googles (yes, really used them for about 1-2 wks). It was my avatar....I'll post for a few days again, just for a good laugh!

And this thread is a jinx - I started getting bubbles and leakage last two nights, even with my lips sealed and taped

dtsm, you really use blue painter's tape I thought it was a joke the painter's tape.

I notice when I use the nasal mask it makes a pressure over my upper lip and it seems for a weird reason my brain knows I need to keep mu mouth shut.

When I use the Swift FX my mouth opens at least enough to have leaks. I started trying 3M surgical paper tape 2 inches wide and 4 inches long + a bit of chapstick or similar product. I wash my face with baby shampoo to take away all excess of oil. I close the lips to the inside an apply the tape centered over my lips. I have no leaks and in the morning the tape is still very good in place and not easily taken from my mouth.

I was afraid of having an allergic reaction or a skin problem because of the glue in the painter's tape, we don't know if that glue is made to be applied over the skin.

Yes I really do, thanks to Gerald for this tip some months back.

Actually, I've tried both. The medical paper tape's adhesion is too much for me, especially if I have the urge to cough in middle of night and need to peel off the tape. The blue tape, #2080, has just enough adhesion to stay on but not enough to cause pain when removing and/or allergic reaction to skin.
