Share a success

Post by angelo » Sun Apr 18, 2010 8:52 pm

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share a great experience I have had and hope it encourages others.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in March of 2009. Initially I struggled using the machine (Remstar Pro M, 11.0, full quatro facemask). I couldn't seem to get used to it despite trying many suggested solutions. Because of the difficulty falling asleep and side effects like bloating and congestion, I gave up a few months into treatment.

Well, to make a long story short, the last year my sleep has regressed even more. It got to the point that I would almost fall asleep on my drive home from work and required 2-3 hour naps in the evenings just to function. I finally said enough was enough and re-started my treatment. I was intimidated and afraid that it wouldn't work again, but I was desperate. Well 5 nights of amazing sleep later, I truly feel like a new man. Not only do I have more energy (0 naps since), but my mood has been so much more positive. I guess when you are starving for quality sleep and you get it, it has a pretty great effect on your outlook. I am excited not only for my health benefits, but also the opportunity to actually live life and have the energy to complete tasks and goals. Sleep apnea is like fighting a losing war night after night, and I think I have finally ended those battles.

I hope others who have given up on their machines will give it another try because when you do hit that right stride, it is incredible.

Angelo

Thank you for taking the time to share your story so that others wanting to give up may be encouraged. I too was a quitter who returned to cpap out of desperation. Glad your story has turned out well too.
