Please lets not yell at each other. Use of all capitals implies YELLING or SHOUTING .

Thank You,

Count me in, Asthma and Gerd

Post by Longinus62 » Sat Jan 15, 2005 12:42 pm

Seems like SA is a factor that runs through many other illnesses. I've been through quite alot in the past 5 months, hospitalized twice with severe asthma, and finally diagnosed with sleep apnea, GERD, and Vocal Cord Dysfunction. It's taking time to get all of these under control, but the sleep I seem to be getting the past few nights has certainly helped. This forum has helped quite a bit too.

Sleep Apnea's friends...

Post by CPAPNAP » Sat Jan 15, 2005 7:54 pm

Sleep Apnea sure did a lot of damage in my life----so sneaky at night like a thief---I have full blown Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. Oh and a lot of anger from being so misunderstood for many years. Being thought of as everything from lazy to depressed to psychosomatic was harder for me than any of the physical symptoms. I truly believe that I am on the road to slow recovery from all the symptoms.

Hang in there all of you with bigger challenges. Get that sleep!

Hi everyone,I'am on my fifth night with the CPAP. Ican't believe what I've just read on this site, the joint pain, reflux, allergys that have allmost become asthma,GERD{If this makes eatting difficult without something to drink}, and thinking i'am loosing my mind. Oh, I forgot the hypertension.I can't remember the last time i put beer or sodas in the freezer and did not forget to take them out. P.S.-I'am 47 and think i've had this for 20 or maybe 30 years now. This has truely been a revelation. G ood luck everyone.

Hi Bobster,

Hope you're on your way to better health! Keep us up to date on your progress and put a beer in the freezer for me too.
Sincerely,

And I imagine many of these additional woes cause us enough residual pain to also interrupt our sleep.

As for me, I'm on medications for hypothyroid, reflux, degenerative joint disease in neck, pain meds for bulging disk and herniated disk in lower back. I've had cortisone injections in the neck for two bulging disks and had a nerve burned there about a month ago which brought a lot of relief and could last for many years. I've had one injection in my back and will have another two before they burn the nerve there. I may be pain free in my back for the firt time in over 30 years. I had a bone spur on my clavicle which was removed a few months ago, but I still have some pain in the shoulder joint from their removing some cartilage there. I have a degenerating right knee which will require a partial replacement in the future, bone spurs on my heels, one of which is still bothering me.

My blood pressure was getting higher but not too high and has gone down about 20 points since I've been on CPAP. I'm also ADD and have been since childhood, but no one knew about it then. I'm also about 35 pounds overweight, lost 20 on South Beach diet and then just plateaued. I've stayed on the diet for over a year because it is a very healthy one, but still eat occasionally what I want. Hoping the CPAP will get me off that plateau and down to a healthier weight.

Other "things" besides sleep apnea

Post by Marie » Sun Jan 16, 2005 7:30 am

Ok, fellow hoseheads,I guess I will write what is wrong with me.Physically.
HBP,hypothyroidism,overweight.A lot.

I am joining Weight Watchers next Tuesday to get a handle on the weight.
I have been there many times before, but I refuse to give up.

So far that is all that I have. But,I was on Prempro for so many years before the smart people decided that is was not safe to take for long periods of time. What a crock! Now, besides the breast, ovarian cancer, heart problems that I could possibly have,I just read in the paper that I have more of a chance now for Alzheimers.Isn't that just great.Makes one wonder about the drug companies.

Hi Jean1954,

You're doing fine.

And thanks for typing in small letters now. It's much easier to read sentences that are not in all capital letters. On the internet, posts written in all caps are regarded as someone shouting constantly.

The font (print size) that this website uses for messages really is awfully small.

Here's a hint for those who have trouble reading the small print:

If your mouse has a scroll wheel, leftclick anywhere on a website page, then hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard. While holding down CTRL, spin your mouse wheel. You can make the print as big or small as you like with CTRL and the mouse wheel.

I "turn mine up" first thing after I start my web browser - then I'm good for the day.

If your mouse doesn't have a scroll wheel (or if the trick doesn't work) there's another way: click "View" at the top of your browser and increase or decrease the size of the font there.

Here I am, a bona fide grade A computer geek, and I didn't know that little trick with the mouse wheel! Thanks a bunch. Think it' s time for me to do a little research into why sa seems to be connected to other illnesses as well. Any thoughts out there on why that is?

I have been diagnosed with depression a few years go, but now that I have been on CPAP, I feel like I used to before my depression. I am still on medication but wonder if the source of depression may be OSA. I am going to try and wean off meds to see if both CPAP and light therapy is all I need. Have any others out there experienced similar experience?

Sean, I'm no doctor, but I've heard of others who were put on medications for depression when untreated sleep apnea was their real problem.

I think you're on the right track, but before I weaned myself off any meds that I'd been taking a long time, I'd check with my doctor first. If that doc doesn't think it's a good idea to start weaning, I'd get another opinion or two (or three...or four. )
