Finally got my first xPAP (Resmed S9)
Finally got my first xPAP (Resmed S9)
Took them a while to order it and get it in stock, but at lunch time today I finally got my S9/H5i (they forgot the climatline, but will order it for me).
I tried to take a nap after setting it up, but I couldn't get to sleep (likely had something to do with the half caraffe of coffee I drank at work).
Not sure how I like the EPR, but since I was titrated at 6-7cm its not too much of a problem to run it without EPR or a ramp.
I plan to try running straight CPAP at 7cm for a couple of days to get a feel for things, see how my AHIs etc. look, then try switching to APAP mode and start trying to drill my numbers down.
let me know if this sounds like a good plan to you guys.

glad for you, time reading the instructions will be well spent
remember to inscribe or scratch name and address on it and record the serial number

Re: Finally got my first xPAP (Resmed S9)
All that coffee certainly won't help getting to sleep. I also found the first couple of nights on the S9 I was sleeping extremely lightly because the way the pressure was delivered down the hose was less intensive and I had to keep checking to make sure the machine was still powered.
Good luck on the S9!
Thanks
Dave

Re: Finally got my first xPAP (Resmed S9)
Slept my first night on the machine. Despite having the humidity set for 3.5 I was definately dried out when I woke up.
I usually sleep through the night, occasionally get up once to use the restroom.
Last night, the first with my CPAP, I slept from 11:30pm - 0500am straight without waking (and on my back, which is unusual for me). I then got up to use the restroom (my fault though, I drank a lot before going to bed), and when I went back to sleep I found that I woke up multiple times to adjust the mask or to change positions until I got up at 0700.
I think I was less groggy when I woke at 0500 than at 0700.
After breathing with the machine for a few minutes I did often feel like it was not on, until I took the mask off an noticed the difference. Even though I turned the EPR off, it does feel (and sound) as though it is matching the pressure to my breathing.
I also noticed that when I got up it logged 7.5 hours of sleep, but there were no numbers listed for AHI. Does the S9 have to go some time without use before it updates the statistics?
Anyways, thanks for the help guys.

Re: Finally got my first xPAP (Resmed S9)
For your humidity you might try setting it on AUTO.
That is supposed to deliver 80% humidity automatically.
Your temperature setting will also affect that.
I don't know why they didn't put a temp sensor in the incoming air stream instead of having the user input a temp.
In most cases I suppose you can set it for what your thermostat is set for. But for people who sleep with open windows the temp might easily fluctuate from the setting.

I will take a look at that as soon as I get home. I don't remember any setting of that sort on the main menu, only a numerical "humitidy" setting.

You have to have the climate line tubing to use Auto.

Did you see 7.5 hours of usage on the S9 or was that blank too? It shouldn't be blank, did you have the SD card inserted properly? I would try ejecting the SD card, re-inserting it and then pulling the plug on the S9 and plugging back in and try tonight.Hodr wrote:I also noticed that when I got up it logged 7.5 hours of sleep, but there were no numbers listed for AHI. Pulled the card and dumped the data into the Resmed software (the results of which I posted in another thread). Tuesday morning it logged the the 8 hours of sleep and gave me an AHI of 1.6, so it seems to be working now.dave21 wrote:Did you see 7.5 hours of usage on the S9 or was that blank too? I had a couple of questions in the thread where I posted the graphics, but I don't seem to be getting any responses. My main concern was the detection of central apneas when I wasn't aware I was prone to those (especially at such a low pressure setting), and of course whether or not any obvious conclusions could be drawn from the graphs.
