I got my machine and humidifier today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all: I picked up my new machine and heated humidifier today. I can't wait to go to bed! It is the Remstar Plus . It's very quiet. Insurance will cover the cost in full! They( the receptionist) were going to make me wait for a month for an appointment to have the machine explained to me and then take it home. After they saw my reaction to that, they got me in this afternoon and I came home with it. Now that I know I have the problem and it can be fixed with the machine's help, why wait!? I guess sometimes the patient has to lose patients to get things done. Anyway I'll keep you updated. Rod.

Wow, someone explained how to use it to you??? Mine came in the mail preset and I still have a hard time making any adjustments.

Yes I had to go and have the machine explained, and then sign that they did that! Usually they want one hour to do this but because they squeezed me in,(unschedualed appointment), they did it in forty minutes. They also wanted me to go into the office in one week, one month. three months and one year! However I live 100 miles from the sleep lab and it takes me about 2 1/2 hrs to get there with traffic in Boston, they are going to let me fax my reports to them. I thanked them for that!

Rod, I noticed your location and I live like ten minutes from S. Deerfield. Small world, eh? It sounds from your description like your DME is Apria... that's what they did for me (to me?) as well. If that's the case, there's an Apria in Springfield - that's the one I use - that would be much, much closer for you to go to. Just an FYI

Well I made it through the first night! I did wake up a couple of times,but was able to go back to sleep. My throat was not dry, but I did have some condensation in the mask whick dripped on my face. I think thats what woke me. I am going to lower the temp. on the humidifier tonight to see if that helps.

Congrats on the machine, I hope it works better for you than my first did for me,,, just got my new machine,,, tonight will tell..

What did you have the humidifier set at,,, I was suggested to start at two.

Hi CollegeGirl: thanks for the info. My doctor is in Brookline. He refered me to the sleep centers in that area. I went to the one in Newton.They were great, I just didnt know what I was getting into!Hopefully I can do follow up over the fax. Rod

Hi Tom, Mine was set on two. I'm setting it on one tonight. Also my wife likes the bedroom cold so thats another reason to turn it down lower to help prevent condensation. I also tried to keep the excess hose under the covers with me. I may end up leaving the heater off when all is said and done. Rod[/u]

With the Breas and H2 humidifier,, I had heat off.

Hi Rod

I just got my CPAP yesterday. It looks like you've got the same setup I have, a Remstar with heated humidifier, and the same mask. I got mine thrrough Apria within a week of them getting my prescription. They had it set up and explained exactly how everything worked. I didn't have any problem using it last night, and it was nice waking up and actually being alert. I did get a little drowsy after lunch, but I was told it might take a few days before I catch up on all the sleep I've been missing.

I've got the heat setting on the hunidifier at 2, which is what they recommended. I may need to change that when I visit my girlfriend, as she likes the bedroom cold. (I think it's just an excuse to cuddle closer - not that I mind) She's been joking about whether she'll be able to get used to sleeping with Darth Vader.

I'm going to be registering here after I get home - I'm at work now - as I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of questions over the next few months.

Hi Rod, here's the solution to rainout (condensation):

With the "heated cpap tube" the temperature in the bedroom can be as cold as your wife likes it, and you can crank your heated humidifier up as much as you wish. No rainout.

That Aussie heated hose is one of the few cpap accessories that actually does what it's advertised to do. Well worth the $89 which includes shipping from Australia to the U.S. That Australian sleep store is the only place the heated hose can be purchased. Very nice people to deal with.

Great advice for Rod to get the heated hose. I would not live without one.

Wasn't it nice that Rod's DME is going to LET him fax in his reports. I'd love to know why it takes an hour to show someone how to hit the on button. LOL
