I know it's not Friday yet but.....
How's everybody doing? I am usually so rushed on Friday mornings that I don't get to write very much so I thought I would take some time today and get this thread going. I saw my Dr. yesterday and I lost another 2 lbs. so my total weight loss is now at 20 lbs. Only another 80 lbs. or so to go. I wasn't being as good as I should have been last week so I've been trying very hard this week...I guess it paid off. I've exercising each day but am finding it to be really hard to get through my 30 minutes on the elliptical. I just don't seem to have the energy but I still do it. I took today off...maybe I'll do some weights later on (probably not). I'm still sticking to eating healthy.
Last week, I asked for opinions on the show The Biggest Loser. I watched it alot last year and found it to be very inspirational. This year, however, I only saw 1 episode and was shocked by the amount of weight these people are losing in just one week. How can it be healthy to lose 17 lbs. in one week. I'm still shooting for 1 or 2 lbs. a week. Luckily the contestants are being monitored by doctors but it still doesn't seem safe to me. What do you think?
Next Friday, I won't be available to get this thread started so I'm depending on all of you to take care of that for me. I look forward to hearing how your week went...good and bad.

Amy, is it Friday (almost) already? I haven't weighed in, but will in the morning.
I did watch The Biggest Loser last season, but this one isn't grabbing me the same way. I don't believe it can be healthy to lose that much weight if you do it the wrong way. But these people are being coached and are exercising and doing all the right things. I don't know what toll that would take on someone's health, but they seem to be doing all right.
I have to say a huge congratulations to you on losing 20 lbs. You beat me!!! And I've been trying since the beginning of July. You should be so proud of yourself. That is a tremendous amount to lose so quickly. And with not feeling so great, you still managed to stick to it. Absolutely fantastic.
I will check in tomorrow, but I'm not expecting too much from last week. Good luck to everyone. Hope to see some big losers.

Whoa, don't get me started on the biggest loser LOL
How can it be fair to pit men against women? "They" always lose faster than women I keep watching them have to vote someone out..very depressing...
I won't report right now, but the weight loss so far is going GGGRREAT!!!!!!
So far this week, 3 pounds, but I still have tomorrow morning to go!
Everyone is doing great, even if it's not fast, at least we know that it WILL come off eventually...just keep at it! Don't give up...

Thanks Lori! It's not surprising that I lost my 20 lbs. a little faster than you because I have SO MUCH MORE to lose. You're at the end of your battle so it's going to be harder for you. I wish I could speed up the process even more, but...hey, I like to eat.
Barb....you're doing GREAT!!!! Keep at it!!!!

Okay. I will start off being the first unhappy person this Friday with their results. I am up 2.5 lbs. Don't know if it has to do with the fact that after a two-week hiatus due to illness and weather (rained 8 days straight in NY), I didn't walk. But I started again and maybe it has something to do with fat to muscle conversion again? Man, am I grasping her or what? Somebody throw me a line quick before I sink.
In any case, I won't let it bother me. Today is another day to work at it and get those pesky lbs. off. I am really struggling here for these last 7 lbs., which are now 9.5. But like our therapy and everything else in life, this too will pass and hopefully by next Friday, I can report I am once again a loser. I had two great weeks, so this will not get me down.
Oh, no. I am going away Monday through Wednesay (everyone is breathing a sigh that they won't hear from me for once for a few days) on my anniversary trip so I hope I won't gain even more!!! Why did I have to go and remember that? Well, I guess more incentive to be angelic this weekend to prepare for it. I have decided I am not going to splurge even though it's a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. It means more to me to stay true to good eating and my goal. And I think I can do that even with all the great restaurants and alcohol that's there. I will just do everything in moderation and hopefully not have to pay for it when I get back to my scale. Plus, the boardwalk is there for a lot of walking, so hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can walk the pounds off every day.
Okay. So who will be our biggest loser this Friday???

Well I'm down 4 lbs. to 246 but I was holding at 250 for a long time and I've been bouncing through +/- 5 lbs for awhile. It's a little discouraging but I can look at the positives of my working out.
35 minutes on the stairmaster every M-F, must be 6 weeks or so and still keeping up with it. Today was great, I was totally stressed out about work, finances, how to pay for my kids' college. So I went out the machine and just pounded away. Very theraputic to take all the stress and sweat it out. I do see a lot more tone in my legs these days. (Of course I'm still a bit stressed out though...)
Maybe the CPAP is helping. I'm not sure I would be able to get up at 6am every day and go work out before. (But part of it is I'm waking up at 5:45 or so and my mask has become annoying so I just get up and remove it. )
If I lose more weight next week, I'll start to feel good about it. (i.e. I'm still losing and not see-sawing) Man, does it seem like you are climbing a mountain and every day you go up a bit but slide down a lot? (insert pretentious Sissyphus reference here...)

ehusen,
MAYBE CPAP HELPED? Come on! Give it some credit here. That is a busy schedule for someone without OSA, let alone someone with it. Good for you...no, GREAT for you. And to stick with it M-F? I'd burn out doing it every day. I love to walk every day my 2.5-3 miles (I've increased it a little) and would never get sick of that, but stairmaster? God bless that great stamina and perserverence you've got. Congrats, too, on dropping the 4 lbs! WTG.

First of all...congratulations Amy on your 20 lbs loss....and also to ehusen and Barb (Seattle)...and to any others who writes a post after this one. Lori...keep trying...you will get there someday. And have fun next week. Since it is your anniversary you may be able to eat more since you will probably be getting more exercise... ...know what I mean...
As for me..I'm not to happy...I stayed the same and I worked so hard at eating right this week...it doesn't seem fair sometimes. But I will try again next week.

No trip to the fitness center this morning because my wife's sister-in-law is in town and is using my wife's car, who's using mine, so no weigh-in.
On the plus side, not having a car means that I had to walk in to work this morning (1.2 miles door to door) and will be walking home this afternoon. To add on to that I just came back from a 30 minute walk on my lunch hour. I figure that I did about 1 mile or so (on the rough terrain next to the road) which will kick me up to about 3.5 miles today. Feeling pretty good this week. I had started walking on my lunch hour back in May and thought to do it every day over the summer. Then the 90+ degree days hit and that went right out the window.
Back to the original topic, I've been watching The Biggest Loser this season. I didn't watch it last season. Personally I've never been able to stand Caroline Rhea so I'm glad she's not on the actual show all that much. I think the female personal trainer is completely unprofessional (speaking as someone who spent a great deal of time in the gym up until a few years ago and has known quite a few trainers over the years). That said I kind of like the show as a whole but because they're dropping the weight so fast I predict that 90% of them will be worse off a couple of years from now. Like I said to my wife after watching the last show, "Imagine how easy it would be to lose weight when all you have to do all day is work out". Keeping it up in the real world is the real challange.

Re: I know it's not Friday yet but.....
I don't think it is healthy to lose 17 lbs in one week. When I went to weight watchers I was told it was healthy to lose 1 to 2 lbs a week. They also said that a person who loses 1 to 2 lbs a week are more likely to keep it off longer and has a easier time keeping it off too.yawn wrote: Last week, I asked for opinions on the show The Biggest Loser. Yes, 1-2 lbs. is a safe weight loss to keep it off. I think they mean because it equates to TRUE weight loss, not a huge amount because you may have eaten less or lost some water weight from the day before. But if you average out to 1-2 lbs. a week, it is assumed a real weight loss. I guess I'm right on track, then, with the 18 lbs. in 3 1/2 months. Seems about right.
Don't give up hope about not losing this week. At least you didn't gain, like me! And I don't even know what happened. All of a sudden, it starts to come off again. I was stuck for awhile and then out of nowhere started to lose. You will, too.
Snowdog, you are an inspiration. You have the energy of an 18-year-old. God bless you! Keep up the great work. I'm sure you'll make it to the marathon.
